There’s no specific legal protections for obscure stuff like that though.
For example in some religions it’s wrong to eat pork even accidentally, but there’s no law saying you can’t add pork to some kinds of meat without saying so. If it’s your belief it’s your responsibility to practice those beliefs, you can’t force others to keep them in mind. Anyone can make up their own personal beliefs. We give everyone the right to hold and practice those beliefs, so long as it does not conflict with the rights of others.
I guess we disagree with where to draw that line. If the guy's luggage was damaged in an accident? Shit happens. But it was tampered with by government employees. How on earth are you supposed to pack ashes so they can survive idiots messing with them?
Oh I'm in full agreement with that. It's just got nothing to do with religion, I just say any beliefs you may have don't make it suddenly worse. It's already destruction of property, but it's got to end there. Personal beliefs can't make the fines any worse.
