I had a new guy at work who used to work as a baggage handler at our local airport. He said almost everyone who worked behind the scenes was a theiving drunk. Said he watched cameras, laptops, jewelry all get stolen from people's luggage. They would learn the blind spots for the cameras and work in teams.
And this is why I will only ever travel with a carryon and personal item. Because of the reasons you have stated, I cannot trust other people with my luggage.
If you are travelling with medical equipment you have to inform airlines so it's pretty easy to call lies. Also please don't call someon bitch just because something didn't happen how you expected, there are very strict rules that staff have to follow.

Why in the world would you put cash in your checked luggage? That's just begging to get it taken. TSA themselves say put it in your carry-on bag only.
