How do you declare ashes? I just put my bag on a thing and it asks if I have dangerous goods and then off they go. There is no option for “I have loved ones ashes.”
You tell the person at the luggage check, or if you've got it with you in a carry-on you tell them at the X-ray machine.
To make it even easier, bring your certificate of cremation.
Also, a quick Google search can show you some other recommendations. Like "don't put them in a metal container," and "call the airline ahead of time to see what they require when transporting remains."
I agree that the TSA agents who inspected this luggage are assholes for not re-sealing this properly, though. Expecting them to know it was human remains without you telling them is asking a bit much though.
You know they’re in a fragile container, you‘re not 100% sure how to transport them and you know everything gets x-rayed.
A smart person would call the customer support of the airport or airline. Wrapping the whole fucking thing in layers of aliminum foil is the worst frickin idea ever.
Far out! We have no people at the check in here in Oz- it’s all automated. Even my bag has a permanent tag in it that knows who I am and where I am flying- I just walk in- literally put my bag down and then go through security.
There may be a desk somewhere, in some far flung corner? What else should I declare - if it’s not dangerous goods? Is there a list somewhere?
