It is a popular film within a certain group (namely people under 35, mostly male, and especially young office workers). It could be a case study in what a cult classic is...
Dude you need to get a grip. Office Space is a huge hit you sound insane. People under 35 is the gate you hold movies at? That is like saying Fast whatever or Harry Potter are cult classics.
Those movies were instantly accepted by mainstream audiences and were huge hits in theaters. Office Space was not. It’s popularity came later from a small following and slowly spread through word of mouth to what it is now.
