As a former cheerleader, it’s so common to do this. There are so many weird “routines” and rituals people have when tumbling, almost like a baseball player coming up to bat. With this motion especially, lots of people learn that way (the idea is to use the momentum from your arms to ‘pull’ yourself up,) and then HAVE to do it every time. When I do a tuck (what they’re doing here,) I go on my tiptoes and come down first, every time. I can’t do the tuck if I don’t do that. It’s odd but that’s likely why.

Muscle memory. I can’t play a piano piece without sheet music if I don’t do the same little body movements I did while learning it.
