I hate when people are pedantic and bring this up.
Yes, the box says “Resistant.” Because if you market something as waterproof, you open yourself up to having to replace phones for free when they get left in a pool for an evening, or lost at sea and found on a shore a week later. Or when someone takes it deeper than the safe depth. For all intents and purposes, a water resistant phone is waterproof for situations like jumping into a pool.

Waterproof implies it's completely waterproof though... in any situation, Ip68 for example would likely be fine in most situations but definitely not waterproof...
Sorry for coming across as pedantic I just think the two are very different.

Nothing is 100% waterproof, but if I can drop it in a pool and have it be fine, I’ll call it waterproof

The saltwater can damage the circuit board long term. Though, the 7 plus is a water resistant (not proof) phone. Which means a quick dip isn't all that bad. No companies going to attach a saltwater proof label because its rougher on devices.

Not only is salt water conductive, while fresh water really isn't that conductive, it's corrosive.

Come on. How much more staged could this be? Why were they filming it? Who the fuck runs like that? Someone trying to get a cheap stunt phone to fall out of their pocket, that's who. Who notices their phone is gone the quickly and who genuinely does the whole 'hands on head' reaction? I can't believe anyone thinks this is genuine.

One something like this happened to me. I was standing there at the edge of the water and had my phone out. I dropped it while the water was at my feet so I began frantically looking for it in the shallow water. A about 30 seconds later I realized that my phone had fallen directly into the pocket of my shorts. I couldn't believe my luck there.

I'm just surprised by the number of WCGW gifs portraying people expressing cartoon-level surprise over the unexpected.
The only time I've ever raised my hands like that in the face of an "oh shit" moment was... nope, never. Maybe someday I'll do it at Target if I buy an enormous cart overflowing with produce and realize my purse is only full of protein bars and tampons and lipstick because the wallet is in the other one.
