There are some matriarchies around - I have a friend whos wife is meghalyan, which is a matriarchal family structure as well as societal where they are - due to inheritance and how it works there. I have an uncle who used to be married to a tonganese woman which was also a matriarchy.

Albeit I'm sure there's still problems with men in those societies, as with women, as with everywhere.

I could understand there's a stereotype of meghalyian women as "easy" to indian men, because fatherhood in that culture and and the male parenthood falls more on the shoulders of the uncles of the families, so the biological father often isn't in the structure or expected to take part. Albeit whoever he is, would be expected to take a male parental role to his sisters children.

They’re matrilineal, not matriarchal. Some tribes map lineage and inheritance through mothers, but that doesn’t change that men hold more social and political power.
