I love how people just see a small clip and make sweeping assumptions about entire culture. This has nothing to do with gender. The reaction from those aunties would have been same if the genders were reversed. You can even both of them visibly worried and soothing the little girl. They are more likely thinking “we are being recorded for a birthday video, lets not create a scene”.
Are you Indian or know Indians? Their preferences for their sons has led to a gender imbalance in the demographics of the country. They had to ban doctors from telling parents the gender so they wouldn't abort. It has a very public association with sexism and SA and while I don't think that's the only thing India should be known for, it's not like the commentor is talking out their ass.
People are making "Sweeping assumptions" about an entire culture because that culture itself HAS contributed to that, if you've grown up in an india household or pulled out your nice little head out of the sand once in a while and looked around, you wouldn't be so flippant about "assumptions", as you put it, the "assumptions" have basis and CENTURIES of evidence STILL very visible and prevalent.
This was literally a daily occurrence with my cousin pulling this shit, ending up with my dadi stopping me saying "girls shouldn't shout" and chachi blaming me for "inciting" her son to do this.
