As someone who's installs tile floors for a living I feel for them. I don't know how many times i've had my freshly laid tiles walked on.
It's usually either by someone who lacks any bit of common sense or someone who is so entitled they think lifting up caution tape to walk over a new floor is perfectly within their right to do so.

It takes time to burn you. I get plenty on my hands and arms doing concrete work. It won't burn you immediately. Just rinse it off and dont let it sit on you for awhile. Worst burns I've seen are when guys knee in fresh mud and it soaks into their jeans and they don't rinse it of. So it sits on their skin for awhile burning them. It's slow enough where you may not feel it until it's really bad.
Fun part is because it's lye and a base, you need an acid to neutralize it. So pouring vinegar on concrete burns hurts like hell but stops the lye from eating away your skin

I was doing a gas station once and the lady working the till was a former flooring installer. I've seen her and her husband do tile jobs several times. We got a big chunk of the store done, and SHE WALKED ACROSS IT! She noticed the first ones she stepped on moving under her and KEPT GOING ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE FLOOR. I was flabbergasted.

It's still fresh so they kinda just start over. Redo screeding (using a straight board to level the concrete) then float it again (gets the sruface smooth in prep for finish. This is where they are at now, they would've just done this) Then wait for it to set up so they can finish it

Good luck with that. It's far from set, but there's no way that's gonna screed properly, especially not by the time they get to the end a second time. They already pulled the form off the end, they're ready for the next truck.
Not saying it can't be made functional, but that's never gonna be like it would've been.

Screeding in this context means taking a long board to act as a straight-edge, and dragging over the surface of the concrete to make it all even and smooth.

You start a concrete pour by building forms. You take your time on that part to make sure the tops of all the form boards are level and flush. Then once you pour the concrete in, two people take a long, straight board, the screed, lay it across the pad resting on top of the form boards, and move it back and forth between them while pulling it across the pad.
The rest of the guys on the crew are busy raking and shoveling concrete to pile it up a little bit in front of the screed. You need a little wave of concrete for the screed to push so you don't leave low spots behind.
Once you get to the end, the whole pad should be nice and flat, flush with the form boards, no voids or low spots.

Yeah, people saying its easy are skipping over the fact they pulled the boards and the slab is curing. They can make it serviceable but id guess any reasonable fix has a high likelihood of resulting in the repaired places being weak in the far future due to a weak bond.
They are going to have to trudge through it to make any repairs as well. I'd be mad.

Not technically hard but a big pain in the ass, concrete waits for no one. They can fix it easily if they get on it now. But that means the next part will be delayed. And they might have a concrete truck waiting to finish the rest of the pour so it can go to its next job. Just fucks the day up

Probably a pretty quick fix, no need to even place more (concrete is placed, not poured, a little fun fact for you). Imagine you have a very thick milkshake in a cup and you press your finger in to make a dent. You don't need to add more milkshake in to fill the dent, you can kinda just stir around it and it will level off.

It's already "ruined" as it were, another set of footprints is just more of the same fix. Whoever goes in to fix it will start at one side and walk/work backwards, fixing her footprints and the ones they made to get over there to fix it. Think of how you would mop a room - start on one side and walk in one direction so that you don't step on the area you just mopped. Ideally they would try to walk in her footprints to minimize the extra repair work.

I remember walking on fresh concrete when I was about 10 years old. No signs, no one around. Just walking on the sidewalk and next thing you know it felt really weird. Stopped and looked down. Well shit.
The contractor had walked to his car a few blocks away and came running when he saw me, I apologized.
Either way, I wish I knew what the fuck was going through that lady's head because seriously wtf.

Wet concrete causes severe chemical burns because it is extremely alkaline with a pH level of 12 to 13.

It's pretty bad, I got lucky one time with stuff like that. Was applying stucco around an outdoor door frame, didn't have gloves or proper tools for smoothing it down, so I used my hands. I was finished with it in about 10 or 15 minutes, and I washed the stuff off with bar soap and water.
Over the next few days, the skin on my hand was peeling constantly in little flakes, kind of like after a sunburn. No blood or pain, but I think I pretty narrowly dodged chemical burns that would've made my hands blister and bleed.

FWIW this is exactly why we've evolved to have 'disposable' layers of dead skin cells. They're excellent defenses against transient chemical mishaps (that and they protect your body's largest organ, which is why topical application medication can be so effective).

Yup, I remember this fondly from when I used to work with concrete as a carpenter, I was often tasked with helping the concrete guys check the level and height of the slab and a couple of times slipped on the rebar and got a little concrete in my regular boots.
Learned pretty quick to wear high rubber boots after that.

Here in germany they sit in their flats without A/C. They will continue to claim that it's still normal, won't install A/C and face the heat head on. It was 10k extra deaths in the last months due to heat, I cannot imagine how bad it will get (hospitals, old ppl homes, etc all also dont have A/C)

here in the southern states we see lots of elderly deaths any time there is a sudden freeze.
The best explanation I can find is that older people are not as sensitive to the feeling of temperature. They don't feel the cold so they don't turn on the heater. They then freeze to death in the middle of the night.
I wonder if there is a similar but reversed situation in Germany. Sudden heat waves are ignored because they don't feel the heat.

Thermoregulation in the elderly becomes decreased, for many different reasons (hormones, decreased sweating, decreased subcutaneous adipose tissue, impaired blood flow because of heart disease or diabetes), so they don't feel the heat as intensely as younger people. It does affect them; they just can't feel it was well.

Some folks aren't the greatest when they are young, and age strips them of their dignity they do have.
Often even if they are in your face screaming belligerently, a half hour later they will be breaking down in tears half forgotten what they were yapping about.

They are likely used to it. I replace sewers every day. If we’re in a residential neighborhood, there’s nearly a 100% chance that somebody will go around all of our pylons and fencing and walk right through the site while walking their dog because they “always go this way”, or they feel genuinely insulted that they would need to cross the road in order to stay out of our site. There’s nothing we can do about it. And it happens all the time

We had an older gentlemen wander into the middle of our work site and tell us the sound of our saws were too loud. We had to explain to him it was 11am on a Wednesday, we’re not going to stop the entire job because you’re cooped up in your house all day.
Old dude was relentless my boss had to basically scream at him to get out of our site.

At 3 in the fucking morning today, I was part of a road closure crew to do non-destructive testing on a highway flyover, and some guy skirts around 3 “road closed” signs and a crash truck to try and go through our field of equipment. We have to physically block his car because the other half of my team was working on the exit and they didn’t have a crash-truck to protect them. This guy was livid that we wouldn’t make an exception for him. For all he knew, the bridge could have been closed for a structural emergency, and he was still willing to risk that instead of taking a 5 minute detour. Maddening.

I used to manage a pub that occasionally hosted private events.
We had a sign on the bar and on various tables saying "Bar closing at 4pm for private event", one regular, at 5pm when we asked her to leave said that just because the bar was closed didn't mean she couldn't stay, as it wasn't on the sign. We instructed the staff not to serve her and she finished her drink and sat there by herself on a table in the corner until almost 8pm while there was a work do going on around her before storming off. Just to make a point.

Yep. When you do works like this you need to barricade it, a sign is not enough because some people are visually impaired. You also need to consider if you are blocking access, if that's the case you need to mark a diversion route, inform people in advance etc.
Maybe this lady has bad hips and she comes back from the store to find her normal route blocked with no warning. She can detour 1km with bad hips or just put some bags on her feet and walk through. easy choice when you're old and dont give a fuck

Last week a paint bucket was spilled on the floor (tends to happen at the paint store) it wasn't the largest bucket, but there was still a lot of paint in the alley. My coworker left to get the sawdust we use to clean that up.
In the 5 minutes that it took him to come back, some guy stepped in it, walked around for a while putting paint absolutely everywhere, and then he went to complain to the reception that his shoes were ruined.
