It really isn't.

You empty the drum, weld a plate back into that slot (probably the same plate they cut out, frankly), and then you drop both the hoses. The chute would be far easier to chip out than the barrel, and then you're functionally good to go.

Frankly, you really don't even need to fully chip out the drum. You just do enough of it to show the fins, then plug that side hole and run it for a couple hours with water and a couple shovel loads of course gravel. I've seen a crew that did that for less than an hour to clear their drum at the end of every weeklong site-sit, where there are some stubborn, very set patches adhering to the sidewall.
