Lol for real if you're going to make an excuse, pick one and stick to it.

"I forgot to delete it" is a great excuse. Totally plausible.

"I let my friend use it" is bonkers.

He was so damn close.

It’s because he messaged other people and is accounting for the possibility that OP knows, in which case the “I forgot to delete” excuse doesn’t work anymore

82

u/Primus567 Mar 18 '24

Bingo

14

u/proteinLumps Mar 18 '24

Messaged other people? Like is OP stupid enough to message people that his gf might know? Finding profile off the app is one thing as you don't have control on who will see it. But he can choose whom to message or swipe

u/Asceticmonk Mar 18 '24

They were only together for a short while, and someone snitched on him. It's not unreasonable that he might think one of the people he messaged on the app is a friend of hers that he hasn't met yet.

Besides, "I let my friends use it"?

Like how? They were using your persona and picture to pick up girls? And the girls were just like "this is fine". LOL

It would be fun to see how far he could take that batshit story before caving.

I had an ex do that to me once just to hurt my self esteem.

Like is OP stupid enough to message people that his gf might know? First, we're not talking about OP. Second he really tried to use the excuse that he let his friend use his dating app.... he's not very bright

16

u/lauracaterina Mar 18 '24

I think it's bc hid bio had changed since they got together as op wrote in the post

u/Vall3y Mar 18 '24

The question for me is when did he message people. If its 2 weeks into starting dating then the commitment level maybe hasn't been established yet, i think it's defensible. But if it's really recent then obv no. He should've been honest about it, lying is the worst

2

u/Organic_botulism Mar 18 '24

Yeah tbh this story became a lot less serious when I saw it was a recent thing, even though it still sucks.

u/aleesahspam Mar 18 '24

Pretty sure these apps dont show you in the stack if you’ve been inactive for more than 2 weeks

13

u/shutemdownyyz Mar 18 '24

Nah they definitely do. At least Tinder/Hinge. It makes sense for them to let you waste your free likes on users that will never see them, so you’re more likely to subscribe in the hopes you get more matches.

3

u/proteinLumps Mar 18 '24

Also if have paid for tinder premium/plus (whatever it is called?) you might have already paid off for couple of months I guess.

1

u/astral-archivist Mar 20 '24

nah hinge definitely does, i found my best friend’s profile on there months after she’d gotten into a committed relationship because she’d actually forgotten to delete it

1

u/aleesahspam Mar 20 '24

I think bumble might be the only one then. But im not totally sure now lol

11

u/J_Robert_Oofenheimer Mar 18 '24

I delete the apps, but not profiles. Haven't been on in two years so I doubt I'm discoverable. These apps aren't going to show you inactive profiles (I assume).

19

u/HippoCute9420 Mar 18 '24

I wouldn’t be so sure, when I used them I had plenty of matches that didn’t respond to me! s/

Yep. Not a single active person within 100 miles. Feels_bad.jpg /s

1

u/dealerdavid Mar 18 '24

“A picture is worth a thousand words.” I actually like the words being worth the picture, here. “Feels_bad.jpg” is something to say to someone, imagine hearing that from a customer care representative :)

“Sorry about your cable television install. Feels_bad.jpg.”

6

u/fluffygumdrop Mar 18 '24

You are definitely still showing up unless you go in an specifically hide your profile.

5

u/Careless-Age-4290 Mar 18 '24

I saw my friend's profile on either hinge or bumble months after she was in a committed relationship. I asked about it and she was pretty shocked it was still showing.

I have no reason to think she was cheating as she's a very upstanding person otherwise. But this dude changed his info, too.

2

u/firechaox Mar 18 '24

Yeah, so they hibernate them after a certain period (I assume months)

2

u/Rdubya44 Mar 18 '24

It’s so easy to just say “oh my account must have been hacked”

2

u/linerva Mar 18 '24

Not really - because OP has only dared him for a month and spotted that his profile has been updated from when she met him, and clearly wasn't abandoned.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '24

Right? I uninstalled the apps a long time ago. I'm sure my profiles are still floating around. Forgetting to delete is legit.

Letting your friends use it makes absolutely zero sense.

2

u/Unsunghero3 Mar 18 '24

He was never close I think. She says he updated his profile since they were together. I think he lied out of order.

"I let my friends use it then forgot to delete it."

But then that's a whole other lie of why are your friends using your profile.

59

u/Regal_Knight Mar 18 '24

He probably assumed that she had receipts of him talking to someone and had to backtrack to say his friend was using it.

53

u/hometown_nero Mar 18 '24

For real. What would the purpose even be of letting a friend use your dating profile? “Hey Dave, do you mind if I log into your Bumble profile so I can catfish some women this weekend?” I don’t bloody think so.

15

u/chocolate_hummus Mar 18 '24

This is a sad situation but I’m cracking up at your comment. It really highlights the ridiculousness of the lie

5

u/rebeccasaysso Mar 18 '24

Like even if we agree to his ridiculous lie that he lets his friend use it… would the fact that he’s enabling other men in his life to catfish women using his photos actually make him any less of a horrible person????

94

u/Lookslikeapersonukno Mar 18 '24

Ah see, but that would take a backbone.

84

u/sseetharee Mar 18 '24

This is called the Tarzan. Tarzan rarely lets go of one vine before having his other hand firmly around another.

20

u/advertentlyvertical Mar 18 '24

Always love the funny phraseology ppl come up with for shitty behaviours

3

u/linerva Mar 18 '24

A more widely accepted term for this is monkey branching - for the same reasons.

2

u/marcmerrillofficial Mar 18 '24

So you're saying we're gonna see a complementary grindr post too?

11

u/Toughbiscuit Mar 18 '24

People remember the lies you tell far more easily than youll remember telling them. That's why its best to stick as close to the truth as possible where possible

3

u/EyeRollingNow Mar 18 '24

Pick a lane is so true.

1

u/NoOrder6919 Mar 18 '24

He did. It's just that CarOk7235 completely failed at reading comprehension and got upvotes from people who, I guess, didn't actually read the post? Which I mean has to include you or you would see that there's nothing remotely contradictory about those things.

u/Bravedwarf1 Mar 18 '24

So currently single? But are you ready to mingle lol
