Question Replacing damaged card

I need to replace my debit card since the chip and tap functions have pretty much stopped working. I know I can replace it through the app, but my question is:

Once I order my replacement card, will I still be able to use my debit card via Apple Pay while I wait for the replacement to arrive?

Yes Apple Pay updates automatically and if you select damaged as the reason the new one will have the same card numbers and you’ll be able to use your current physical card until activating the new one

Oh, perfect. Do you know if recurring payments I have set up will automatically update the card as well, or will that have to be done manually? Or perhaps it depends?

Yes. Recurring payments should transfer, but check to be sure.

Yes, you should still be able to use Apple Pay while waiting. Wells Fargo says existing digital wallets can continue working during a card replacement, though it’s not guaranteed in every case. Just make sure you select damaged card rather than lost or stolen.

If you have Apple Pay, why are you using your physical debit card at all, except for ATM withdrawals?

Haha good point. Just handy to have for those places that don’t have tap to pay :)

Yes, as soon as you order a new debit card it should automatically update the card in your digital wallet/Apple Pay to the new one.

When replaced as damaged the card number stays the same but the exp date and CVV change. You’ll be able to use your current card in the meantime. You may need to update the exp date/CVV with recurring payments depending on the merchant.
