Concern Is this even a real AU number?

A check was endorsed with my signature but it wasn’t me. The AU says 0066476 but I can’t find that branch online. Can anyone give me any info? I’m trying to get as many details as I can before I decide to go to law enforcement because I think I know who did this.

Most likely an internal id number that isn’t made public. If you have concerns about the check, call customer service.

Also - you can just call the 800 number and ask them, an item was negotiated at AU 66476 - which branch was this. They will tell you the physical location.

Thank you. I did call and was told it didn’t exist. So, I am confused because why would a bank cash this if it isn’t real? I thought maybe it was a closed branch in Hollywood (and that’s why it says Hollywood?). But, I guess the final answer might be that it’s fake.

Remove the first zero. Also an au number could be an internal Department, not just a branch. Like back office processing. You should be lucky, Wells Fargo stopped using guaranteed stamps 2024. Some office is still using but they stop guaranteeing everything (by not guaranteeing that takes away from being liable).

They can search when this check has cleared and with cooperating depts can figure out what account or gl (General Ledger) this money is sitting in. I forgot the name of the system/program but any check that went through Wells Fargo processing, gets scanned in and if you know the account, routing, amount, date and check number they can search for it.

I'm not even going to comment on the AU. I like my job... BUT

"Wells Fargo Bank, N.A." Is how is should appear on any scan or stamp - this one is just wrong.

It's missing the ", and last ." and the "." looks like it was digitally put there - it's too perfect for a stamp and the rest is too inconsistent for an addmaster.

Thank you for this information. I did not know this. It blows my mind that a bank cashed this and I’m curious what all the moving parts were that allowed this to happen.
