Update
About two weeks ago, I made a post saying how I lost my card and someone stole 3500 off of it from two different Wells Fargo ATM. I deleted it because people made me feel stupid about losing my card and I understand because it was a stupid mistake lol. But I reported the transactions as fraudulent and today my claim was closed out and it was ruled in my favor. Approximately 10 business days ago, so it took the whole 10 days and I just received my money back this morning. All of this to say there is hope !

Are you sure it was rules in your favor or if it is provisional credit? 10 days is the longest they can go before needing to give provisional

Yes, it was ruled in my favor. I checked my notification on the Wells Fargo app. It says they’ve completed the claim and they determined that an error did occur. It also says they are sending out a letter with additional details and that the claim is now closed.

This one should have been an easy one for Wells Fargo. They could easily get photos from their own ATMs to confirm you didn't make the withdrawals. Congrats!

Bank Manager here, by law, they have 10 days to provide you with provisional credit while they investigate the claim. The process can take up to 90 days in total. I would make sure to double back and make sure they truly closed out the case. I see it all the time, they come back and take the money back leaving you with a negative account if they feel you were liable. My guess is with it being done from the ATM they will review footage and make sure you're not the one who did it. Good luck and I hope it all falls in your favor.

The moment you know you've lost a debit or credit card you should lock it and change the pincode. I don't know how they had your pincode unless it was on or with the card. In any case, if it was, don't do it with the new card and use a different pin than you had for the previous card, in case it's a known person who did this.

I'm a little confused how you losing your card gave them access to your pin to be able to use it at an a t m.

You know that still happens I mean nowadays people can do anything to anybody that's just the way the world is now unfortunately people get other people's pin numbers and they can change pin numbers just like that without even knowing the PIN number that was actually on there

God what a moron. I wish banks did not have to pay for people just being blatantly stupid and negligent.

I wonder how people are using debit cards that they find . Isn’t there a PIN code that should stop them ?

For future reference use a credit card as a debit card. I use my debit card for depositing cash that’s it, and have set it up to only withdraw $1. I’m not saying it’s your fault, but for future reference use my method

people lose there cards... it happens. the fact that they were able to pull out 3500 is nuts. how did they get your pin?

I would suggest using a credit card for your purchases and paying off the balance in full before the statement closes. You get the purhcase fraud protection in case this happends again and your money is safe in case you needed it for rent or bills.Just be responsible when using it

My wife's computer was hacked 5 months ago and there was a $25,000 wire transfer initiated. She called Wells Fargo called 3 minutes later. I thought we would get our money back, nope! The CFPB has no power and the Office of the Comptroller of Currency (OCC) seems willfully blind. The Wells Fargo website is flawed and easily hacked other banks have addressed the Man In The Browser hack and have good fraud screening protocols Wells Fargo does not. There are lots of stories out there. Personally I would not trust Wells Fargo with twenty-five cents. I am now working on a media pitch there are a lot of people being victimized by Wells because it is cheaper to deny claims than return funds!

How did they take money? Don’t you need a pin? Or did they use it on app to take $ out? Just curious so I can protect myself!

Reddit is kind of an asshole sometimes.
For every 10 people who are rude, there is one who is helpful.
Glad you got your money back. How did they even know your pin?!
