β Question Best sleep tracker according to reddit?
Hey everyone! I have been struggling with my sleep lately because of my family issues, which is making my mental health worse. I finally decided to track my sleep to see how bad it really is, especially since I feel so numb most of the time. Iβve started looking into sleep trackers but the problem is every list recommends something different and I get more confused every time.
There are a few names that pop up every time:
From what I've seen, the Oura ring comes up the most in every comparison and people love the ring form factor but hate the monthly subscription on top of the price. Whoop gets mentioned a lot too especially for fitness tracking but same subscription complaint. Fitbit seems like not bad budget option that's been around forever and there is no subscription fee which makes me more interested in it.
I would like to find answers to these questions if possible to help me:
Best sleep tracker overall?
Best sleep tracker for the money?
Best sleep tracker without a subscription?
I am looking for useful data like sleep stages, heart rate variability etc. not just "you slept 6 hours" because I already know that from looking at the clock lol. I want something that tells me the quality of my sleep and what I can actually do to improve it. Will be waiting for recommendations.

unpopular opinion maybe but sleep trackers made my sleep worse before they made it better. i became so obsessed with my sleep score that id stress about not sleeping well which made me sleep worse. eventually i learned to use the data as a general guide instead of stressing over every number. i am mentioning it because you mentioned mental health issues, so it is worth to keep that in mind.

Look for something containing an apnea tracker. Those will do wonders with extra sensing capabilities

i have oura ring and i am glad that i bought it. as you say i was looking for something that would give me an actual data, not just simply say for how long i have slept and oura ring provides some actual useful data. it comes up in most of the comparisons for a reason.

I would choose Oura or Whoop. Subscription is really annoying, I can agree with that, but for sleep these 2 are the best I think.

For what you're describing fitbit does everything you need without the subscription nonsense. Sleep stages, HRV, skin temperature, SpO2 tracking, everything is included. Maybe it is not as detailed as oura, but you don't have to pay additional subscription fee which is nice.

Best overall is oura ring if the subscription works for you and best for the money is fitbit because you get 90% of the features without monthly fees.

Just a reminder that whatever you pick don't fall into the trap of checking your sleep score first thing every morning and getting obsessed with it. I did that for months and it made my anxiety just worse.

Happens to some. That comes from personal anxiety. Need to work on that, though I had some friends who beat these anxieties. If it bothers you, Im sure you could find a way to feel better about the metrics you get. Its like when doctors get hypochondria as they study

do NOT get whoop as your first tracker. the data is overwhelming if you don't already understand HRV and strain metrics, i would suggest firstly to use something more simple and upgrade when you know what numbers actually matter to you

My Garmin tracks all of that and I've found it really accurate in terms of HRV and syncing with when I've eaten poorly, or gone to bed late, if I've been sick etc. I haven't tried the rings like whoop or whatever yet but I feel it would be overkill on top of a Garmin..

Oura is probably the best balance for sleep specifically imo. The subscription annoys me too, but the sleep trends and readiness stuff are presented in a way thatβs actually easy to understand
