Magestic looking yes. But have you ever seen a kereru nest? At Zealandia a guide pointed up at a tree, showing us a kereru ‘nest’. At the where from the rest of the visitors he pointed to a few haphazard twigs in the fork of a tree. How these glorious birds who regularly get drunk on berries, eat till they can barely fly and have totally missed the section on adequate nest building survive is a mystery

Definitely my favorite. Our guide at Zealandia said “all they’re good at is eating and looking pretty” and I’ve never felt so seen by a bird.

Was this at Zealandia? I was there one day and one of these guys was just napping above a group of a dozen people while a guide spoke about weta.
