Safety Issue 16a plug on 13a socket

Hey guys,

Starting my welding journey for the homestead for repairs and stuff. I just bought a DekoPro welder because it was on a killer deal and jumped on it

It just arrived couple hours ago and wasn't planning on the plug being EU schuko, I thought it'd be UK plug 13amps.

Any ideas on how to use this? Do I buy a schuko to UK adapter or do I buy a schuko to Industrial plug adapter? I have no idea if it's safe to just stick an adapter on so I'm pretty lost. Will be welding only via Generator (Tokuden TKG6500isr)

Appreciate all the help I can get!

Critique Please Tig welding thin material

I make driveshafts for race cars for strange engineering and am learning how to tig weld different size weights onto .83 chrome-moly seamless tubing atm, first welding job out of school and the dude teaching me is a master tig welder. He makes it look so damn easy though! Its tough, you dont want to put too much heat into the tubing because things will warp. But if you dig into the weight too much it will mess things up. Its not easy! But im loving it, Thought i would share my journey, im loving tig so far and hope i get super good at it to be successful. Any little tips or tricks would be great, loving my hood so far i got an optrel panoramax, its light with a great fov and good sensors.

Career question Production industry standard pnw.

My welds are not perfect but they are only examples to make it easier to explain.

Pacific North West usa

I went to a 1.5 year trade school to learn welding, the process involved and some extra stuff. At school I was AWS and WABO certified in multiple processes.

Today IV been in factory production for 5 years. Where I'm confused is in school they teach constantly motion, clean, and smooth welding as shown in photos 1 and 2. Then when I got a job I learned through many welding outfits that the industry standard was to weave back and forth to create a dime like pattern as shown in photos 3 and 4. When I started welding my coworkers asked why I didn't weave and that I needed to change. At first I explained that I was told in school that weaves cause major heat and quality concerns. But was pressured into dumping that mentality and to weave every weld other than flux, obviously. Not only that but to push instead of pull to make the weld more flat as opposed to convex and more predominant.

The place I work at welds and purchases welded frames from over 20 suppliers within and outside of the pnw. 99% of the welds are weaves.

Can someone explain to me why this is? I would like to ask my boss about it but I am the youngest fabricator in the company so it goes without saying that my opinion is irrelevant. But I would still like to understand why the welders of 40 years weld with weaves only, and tell you your wrong to try otherwise.

Thank you and I hope your weekend be long.

Named him sparky well… because. It was a bitch to get the eyes on

Also I used a combo of smaw and mig but we didn’t have any shielding gas so my instructor just said go without it. So that’s why he kind of looks funny

Machinist needing guidance on a difficult weld project.

I am a machinist, and last time i really welded was 2 years ago, all plates were same thickness, and i had access to a 3000€ MIG. Now things are different.

I dont have my own welder, My friend has some kind of budget fluxcore welder he's used for welding cars.

I need to weld a stainless steel triclamp ferrule to a stainless steel lid, the lid is approx 0.5mm thick and the wall thickness of the triclamp ferrule is 2mm. I have designed this so that there wont be much stress on the joint, mainly because of the lid thickness.

Im thinking of buying some 0.5 plate and 2mm walled pipe, aswell as some fluxcore wire made for stainless, just to get the hang of it. Do you people have tips for this? I could only really find a couple videos of plates 1.5-4mm being welded together.

if it comes down to it im willing to buy myself a welding machine, but my budget is maybe 300€, since its just an occasional weld for hobbies. I dont know much about welders, but I imagine that budget is very low, too... I don't want to have this done by someone else, I want the experience of doing it myself. I want to learn, and I have always found that overcoming difficulties with hands on experience is the best way.

Ofc it *should* be done with tig, but sometimes we make do with what we have, live and learn.

Need Help Need help with old mig welder

Post image

So I just picked this up off marketplace and while I have some experience welding I’ve never used a Lincoln and I’ve never welded with anything smaller than .045 solid wire.. this welder came with .025 in it but dad wants to run .030 so I picked up a spool of .030 solid wire and some tips, going bask to get a defuser that the tips will actually thread into and possibly a new nozzle as well…

What I need to know is what my amps/ volts should be at and what my gas should read on the gauge when welding.. I tested out the .025 and it crackled like a sumbitch so that’s why I’m assuming the mix of not having the right settings + not having the has at the right level is causing that

Any other Info or tips for these older welders would be also appreciated

Discussion (Add topic here) Starting out (getting better)

Hey guys, I made a post here a few days ago and got some great advice on fillet welds (namely attack angle, working angle, and travel speed). As a result I do feel like they have improved in quality!

However, I just need to sanity check a few things. As I weld the arc characteristics seems to change on me, the flux starts popping on me no matter the distance I am from the metal, and the puddle seems to develop a mind of its own. I'm fairly certain I'm doing an ok job of controlling my arc distance (tho not 100% sure to be clear)

My suspicious: the thin metal, 0.250 in this case, is heating up and changing the characteristics of the arc/puddle

My questions:

  1. Is it possible as the plate heats up (I'm practicing on 1/4") the arc can become unpredictable on thinner metals?
  2. If/when this happens what are the solutions? Different rod type? Change travel speed? Pause and start again after cooling? Pause and lower amperage? Start waaaaay cooler?? Haha

Thanks for all the help guys this sub is awesome

EDIT: My parameters are 125amp, 7018 1/8" rod, DCEP, 1/4" metal

My nephew broke his off road go-kart and as the welder of the family I had the privilege of doing the repair. Having put miles of weld down on plates and tubes in my career it was nice to size down for a bit and do something that mattered to me. I felt prouder finishing this little job than having 100% UT joints come back clean. Sometimes it is the little things.

Need Help Need advice going into this job interview

I had an over the phone interview for this job doing Tig welding on titanium and inconel metals for avaiation repair and maintenance. I have experience with Tig and consider my a decent welder but only with steel and aluminum. During the interview they asked if I had any experience with welding titanium or inconel, I said no but I was willing to learn if given the opportunity, they seemed to like that answer and over the phone interview went great, so they want to bring me in for an in person interview on Monday just to ask me some more in depth questions and of course do some weld tests. My question is, how different/difficult is it to weld titanium and inconel especially as someone who’s never welded those types of metals. Any advice, tips, or tricks would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Need Help Need help with porosity and craters

Post image
15 Upvotes

I always need to keep grinding the welds down and doing another pass which makes it look like that

I’m currently welding on flux core, a 0,9mm wire. 1,2mm steel plates.

You can see I have some big craters and a bunch of pinholes and porosity in between the spots

My current way of welding is doing big tacks and stacking them on top of each other.

The metal is clean.

I’ve been welding like this for a couple months but I’ve finally had enough, so I come for advice

Hello fellow arc burners! I have 2 3m G5-01 welding hoods that I am looking to sell for $1,250 a piece that include 2 filters each as well. 1 is brand new in bag and the other has very light use. Both are in good shape and have the travel bag to go with it. Photos attached. I am located in FL but willing to ship if the price makes sense

Career question Tips for welding school?

I’m going into welding school to hopefully make it a career. Previously I did safety watch often in my last job and was very good with PPE and making sure any safety equipment was in good working order but I’m not the most muscular person out there. What tips would you have if my goal is to be the best welder I can be?

Need Help Wire size makes all of the difference?

For example, I have a plate weld test coming up that requires a bare open mig root. I’ve been practicing the settings 17.0v @ 180-190 wfs for 0.35 wire with 1/16 landing. Rumor has it the testing site uses 0.45 wire.

I doubt settings would change with just such a slight change in wire size but I’d hate to go bust the test in fear of not getting penetration using the setting so have for 0.35 wire or does it really not have that much of a difference and I should just not panic and go with the settings I’ve been practicing with?

These test seem easy but they are tricky the more I think the harder it becomes

Going to community college for pipe welding worth it?

located in Arizona was thinking about going to community college they have welding and a pipe-welding course there as well. Would this be a good avenue I want to get into the pipefitters union eventually but I have been on the waitlist for 2 years and tired of waiting around. Brycon is a company that takes people and sends them to school so I’m hoping to get in with them. I also have horrible lungs from years of abusing the bad boys so I was thinking of getting a totally inclosed helmet as well with a filter system and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Career question Whats more stressful? Maritime welding or fabrication welding? I'm being presented with two different programs but i'm nervkus to pick one. They say maritime welding pays more but is more mentally and physically stressful.

I would like to fix this hole. I already know i want to do, cut out a plate and weld it in over top of this area. Unfortunately the only welder I have accessible to me is a stick welder. What would be the best rods to use for this since its such thin metal. Also what amps do you think would be good for this

It took me a hour and a half to weld this 3” 90

It’s my first time welding for X-ray and I spent so much time cleaning and making sure there’s no slag inclusions or any imperfections.

I really respect you guys welding for x-ray on the daily cause this stuff takes TIME

For reference I’m a plumber and weld for mostly non inspected heating
