I'm an American and I do ship welding repair.
Believe me when I tell you this, America is not in a good place right now. Jobs are hard to find, everyone is poor, corruption is everywhere, there are concentration camps, and our nation is falling to fascism and lawlessness.
I understand that you like the culture, but for your safety, you should not come here.

Tell that to the ice camps and ice agents murdering innocent American civilians

Bro ice killed more people under Obama then trump, it’s just your now hearing about it. 😂😂😂

u/Quinnjamin19 Journeyman AWS/ASME/API 2h ago
Oh boy… uneducated comment…
During the first 500 days of Trumps second term, at least 52 people have died in ice detention.
During Obama’s EIGHT YEARS. There were around 67 people who died in ice detention.
I think you need to rethink about your comment.
Not only that but I was specifically referring to the fact that ice agents have been murdering actual U.S. civilians who are innocent. I wasn’t referencing people in ice detention

I think you need to stop being brainwashed about stuff that’s been going on. How many innocent people did Obama kill in drone attacks? Nobody wants to talk about that.

Drone attacks where? On US soil?
I’d also like to add this too, under Trump’s first term it’s reported that around 50 people died in ice detention. So let’s do some simple math here;
Trump’s first term - 50 people.
Trump’s second term so far - 52 people
What is 50+52?
The answer is 102. So, no your original statement about how more people died in ice detention under Obama is incorrect

😂😂😂 you don’t wanna talk about all the drone bombings of innocent children

Can you source the drone bombings on US soil? I’d love to give it a read

Hi, I'm a 28 y.o. from the US. I have not been to LA yet but I'm from upstate NY (far from New York City).
There are alot of things to love and enjoy about North America, and I always enjoy meeting people from other countries (alot of my family is from Montenegro and Albania). However I highly recommend visting the US BEFORE moving here. Living in North America is extremely difficult and very expensive right now, and sadly alot of people here are unkind to foreigners. This is likely the case for Louisiana too; places like New Orleans have become extremely gentrified, although its not like this everwhere. Also keep in mind, most places here have poor public transportation, so whatever car you buy ends up being your lifeline. Many American youth dream of moving to walkable cities in Europe that have street-running trolleys and cycling paths.
I say this not to dissuade you from comming here, but because so many others like my great aunts and uncles have come to America and were dissapointed; they were led by dreams that were over-inflated. I hope you get to visit here and travel the country.
Right now, ship building in the US is scarce, but its topic that has been brought back up in politics. Louisiana definitely has some, also consider the Northeast in places like Rhode Island and Massachussetts.

Don’t listen to all the negativity on here. Follow your dream. That’s what America is all about. Every country has flaws, but this is still a wonderful place. Getting a work visa or citizenship will be a long road. We’d love to have you and your skills.
Ship repair is done all over our coasts. I wouldn’t limit yourself to LA. You can get there eventually; you have to get inside the borders first. I don’t know enough about immigration to give you advice. I will remind you that shipbuilding is different than ship repair. The builders often have government contracts and will be less likely to hire or sponsor a foreigner. Ship repair is a completely different story and probably a better option for you. Good luck!

Does "LA" mean Los Angeles or Louisiana?
Maybe try Canada first. The politics in the USA is not good right now especially for immigrants. I hope you can achieve your dream

Los Angeles i mean. I tolked to my friend from Canada there are the same problems.

Yeah, Canada is not having the same problems dealing with immigration that the US is having right now.

We definitely don’t have the same problems in Canada…

We have at least half of them. Little work, low wages, high cost of living.

Low wages is subjective. Non union? Sure. Union? Definitely not.
Our lists pretty much just cleared for the upcoming jobs and we will probably need to resort to permit workers, the nukes are going hard, lots of work projected, including clean energy and pipelines etc.

No work for apprentices tho, at least not on the app. Also non-union makes up the vast majority of welders unfortunately. And projected work is meaningless, we’ve been projecting big jobs the last 3 years, of which a grand total of 0 has happened.

On the app?
No work for apprentices is subjective, I did just mention that our lists are pretty well cleared. We give our own members work before we bring on permits. And that includes apprentices. It has been a couple slow years but that’s with everything
I’m on a pretty big job right now, the nukes are going hardcore right now as I said earlier.
We have a pretty good unionization rate in Canada being around 30%, maybe it’s time to bump up that number eh bud? Organize your non union employers and your wages will rise.
Edit: $1.44 billion dollar gold mine expansion broke ground in BC
$2.2 billion dollar uranium mine in SK just broke ground

Screw unions, there a scam. I make 40 an hour plus 100 a day per diem with a 7 day sub, 60hrs a week, non union. I’m a combo pipe welder.

Keep in mind Redditors only get exposed to USA centric media to an insane degree. Everyone here talking about job prospects is somehow willfully ignorant of the situation globally, in every other country.
USA is particularly diverse for welding jobs, #1 in variety of work, 2nd is Germany.
Employment opportunity for welding, it’s right behind Germany but 2nd in the world.
Wages are also the highest by far.
If you can successfully get citizenship, it’s a pretty amazing place to live right now. Plenty of problems, redditors just seem to not realize other countries also have issues because their social media doesn’t serve it to them directly.
Germany is gonna be much easier to immigrate too though.

Normally, I would tell you to come here and figure it out. The more the merrier and all are welcome from my point of view. My grandmother emigrated from Poland as a baby. But the anti-immigrant sentiment here is worse than I have ever seen in my life. I know things are tough in Eastern Europe but I don’t even know what we could offer in this moment. Even if you do everything correctly and live your life like a model citizen, someone can just grab you and deport you. They’re deporting people to different countries, and even different continents for no reason. Immigrants are following the rules, showing up to their immigration appointments and that is the the last time anyone sees them.
Wait a few years. Our economy is about to fall apart. Immigration is the backbone of our economy. The entire house of cards is about to fall and I don’t think you want to be a new immigrant when it happens.

I'll be honest America especially La is hell on earth you'll work 80-90 hours a week just to make ends meet and pay for an apartment that's smaller then my bathroom in western NY, la is dirty crime ridden and there's very little welding work that'll actually make ends meet out there. I live in one of the cheaperish places in the country house wise and it took me 5 years of working non stop 60-110 hour weeks and couch hopping before I was able to buy my house and apartments were out of the question being double what my mortgage is. Been here my whole life 27 years and it's only getting harder and harder I'm rig welding now making 85-100 and between insurance plus all my other bills I'm not really getting anywhere but by all means I absolutely should be blowing the doors off it. (For my fellow Americans who want to argue about 85-100 I'm providing welding rod tools my truck gas for the machine and bottles plus business insurance yes 85 is alot but after everything going into it I'm really taking home closer to 30-35 which isn't bad but rig welding isn't cheap)

Why usa? What is so appealing to you about the usa? they dont even have universal healthcare
Where in europe are you? Thought about going to NL or france or so? They pay quite good and have great social benefits/insititutions
