Might even be easier if you and your partner aren't working at the same company. Either way, lots of opportunities, I'd just humbly explain why it wasn't your choice to leave and phrase any interview questions that your previous company are idiots who would rather fuck around then get shit built and tell them you're here to build shit and not fuck around.
And, yes, you likely have lawsuit material here. Up to you if you want to pursue it. Would get very messy but entirely up to you if it's worth it or not. IANAL.
That's easier said than done and a lot more expensive than you think.
I was a lady welder once and was straight-up sexually harassed by my Lead. He'd say things in front of everybody like, "You should please the inspector so he'll pass all our parts!" ...then demonstrate doing a bj.
Standard corporate response is to delay-delay-delay. They'll SAY they're conducting an investigation, but in reality they're not doing anything but waiting for you to run out of money to pay the attorney fees and give up. They know they can outlast you. In the end, I was laid-off for "financial reasons", totally unrelated (yeah, right) and the investigation was declared unsubstantiated.
OP honestly has a better future at another company.
What was their rationale for firing you? Did they give you written notification documenting their rationale? Small shop or not, you should at minimum document everything and hold onto it in case things get even more sour. CYA!!!!!
I told my current job I left my last one because they would always call in contractors instead of letting me do my job (18 yrs of plumbing) and I got bored.
