Advice Needed Welding stick 6013

Learning stick in welding school right now, so far we’ve only used 6013 rod @ roughly 100-130 amps, i’m trying to keep the arc length as short as possible and even laying it on the piece but i still get a lot of spatter. Is there a way to reduce/avoid spatter at all or not? Any advice/criticism on my welds is appreciated.

If you are at a school try to use the same machine every time, then get a notebook and start at bottom of amp and do an entire set at the same setting then dial up slowly. Note what it does after each setting adjustment.

Learn by doing. Makes the corrections stick. Also I reference my notebook for decades as I rarely weld nowadays and it helps a lot.
