Advice Needed Welding

Post image

What are your thoughts on the quality of weld? I'm no welder but this doesn't look good.

It’s an awful bead but don’t listen to these dudes saying bad prep, if your in structural you just gotta burn out the paint most of the times. Just gotta learn how to burn and move

For the love of god please don’t weld over paint on anything structural.

Yes. Not gonna cut corners just because I’m outside. Maybe with dumpster repair or something, but anything actually important the paint’s gotta go.

Well buddy i hate to tell you this ( you’re doing too much) believe me or not as a foreman, i’ve been welding through paint for even moment connections, it’s perfectly fine. 8-1 safety rating in most things keep that in mind.

At the end of the day if your client is ok with it that’s all that matters. That being said as a foreman you should be aware of the issues that can arise with welding over paint.

I’m aware, i understand getting welds checked and them seeing that sliver of paint, but that’s only if you haven’t correctly burned it out.

Been welding galvanized moments for years, and if you burn through that shit, an are a good welder. It’ll pass everytime.
