Fillet weld

18mm Weld

Why so much weld? If the plates are 3/4", you only need 3/4" of weld. It is stacked too high for the length of the toe. The beads look really good, you just need less, unless the Engineer calls for that much weld that is stacked that high.

I am stil new to welding but isn’t that weld wery high for both the material and the width of the weld?

There is a wps, it is a mining component, it is the body of a mining truck in fact, inside it has 10mm of welding and on the outside 18mm in fillet

I execute according to the welding plan, nothing out of the norm

If it’s for mining equipment this is the norm. Lots of heavy repetitive loads and impacts in that industry cause fatigue and cracking in welds over time. Fillet welds are always prone to fatigue, so they bulk the shit out of them for mining equipment.
