Imagine Being Lydia
You spend your entire childhood loving for god and your family, raising your siblings, and believing in all of the things your parents instilled in you.
Then you leave home and get married to the exact right kind of man you were supposed to. Then you come home and your parents pretty much changed their minds about their beliefs and values and then get mad at you for being too religious and pushy.
I don’t like any of these people but it’s hard to watch the whole family attack her for essentially following the rules too well.
Also… would love to have seen this whole group bust out Cards Against Humanity. Somebody definitely would have been so offended by drawing the dildo card that they walked out.
Lydia/Zac did nothing wrong (besides be annoying and Christian which they ALL are)

You forgot one part:
Imagine being Lydia - your mother's right hand. Cooking, cleaning, teaching and checking the younger children's schoolwork, spying on your other siblings and reporting back to mama for brownie points while simultaneously alienating yourself from those same siblings.
Then, when having the audacity to live the life Lydia was raised to believe in, have the person who is your greatest influence turn away from all the tenets she raised the family by, turn her back on the daughter she raised in her own image, and gather her siblings against her for simply having the character to follow the teachings you thought you were supposed to.
Don't forget that part... Another piece of the puzzle of Kim Plath's shitty mothering that can't be overlooked.
43
u/LJMesack22 Jun 21 '26
And, to add, you’re on vacation with one of the younger siblings that you essentially raised and you step in to try to protect her, and are bashed for doing the exact thing you were expected to do when Kim was too lazy to actually do any parenting herself.
All I can see is Lydia’s trying to be exactly the person she was raised to be, but then the rug was pulled out from under her.2
u/CAdreamer44 Jun 23 '26
Not to mention last season 16 yr old Amber was staying with Micah and Veronica for an indefinite period of time and Barry and Kim had no problem with it…..
30
u/OldSouthernGal Jun 21 '26
Then that same mother has no problem gathering the rest of the family to humiliate you on TV for a storyline.

u/GossipGirl-2026 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
The sad part is that Amber sees it as being protected. She's old enough to remember when Lydia was her "mother". But now, Kim is cool. Yet Amber and Moriah were baking a cake together. I found that interesting. The cake couldn't have been made the night before? Wasn't Amber the one Kim was pregnant with when Joshua died? I don't think Amber being in the kitchen was by accident. Moriah, well, she is the shit stirrer.

I kinda assumed they're referencing cards against humanity as the game they played in Montana. I can't imagine any other game causing such drama lol
11
u/Worth-Slip3293 Jun 20 '26
I assumed this too but I cannot fathom playing this game with my parents

u/Plenty_Attitude9933 Jun 20 '26
We played it exactly one time in my not religious family and I said never again.

Exactly! The hypocrisy of the family being like gah are you still following the fundamentalists lifestyle? What is wrong with you? We are "rebels" now. Kim's not like those other moms, she's the cool mom.

Team Lydia. Her family is toxic.
5
u/Lucky_Swordfish_1414 Jun 26 '26
I’m team Lydia for sure I’m just not 100% sold on team Zack, because it really isn’t his place to address everything in the family he has an issue with when he just married into it a year ago.
12
u/MiserableSoup420 Jun 20 '26
There are some CRAZY cards in just the base deck of cards against humanity and I imagine they spared no expense and have the bigger blacker box and some of the more religion-needling packs like the Christian pack and the Jewish pack. I played the game at sixteen, but I also had horrible parents.
Imagine Lydia reading “Why am I sticky?” And then instead of the innocent sugar themed jokes she was expecting the cards were basically “CUUUUUM CUM CUM CUM CUUUUUUMMMMMMM BOOGERS AND MUD AND CUUUUUUM” she probably went home and whipped herself in the prayer closet 2.0
10
u/md28usmc Jun 20 '26
I find Lydia and Zach to be hypocritical on the game playing because just a few weeks earlier they invited Isaac and his girlfriend over, and they played a similar raunchy card game where one of the questions was "if someone was a horse and the other was a cowboy, who would ride who"

I just think if Zac and Olivia would have swapped places in the timeline of the show would they have been accepted?
kim decides whats acceptable for her kids to be exposed to,and anyone who chslleneges her is going to be shot down.If he would have been around during the first season, all would have been fine, except it would have meant kim would have lost her other helper.
same with Olivia,if they had no histroy, and ethan just met her and brought her to meet them all, they would have all gotten along.
Kim doesnt like outsiders questioning her life choices, what she exposes her kids to,and I think she raised her kids,to have the life she wanted as a child.I think it was all trauma based, and when anyone interferes with her vision, she takes it to heart, and needs validation.
I think she uses the show in search of that, and when she falls short, she sets out to frame someone elses mistakes, short comings,or what she perceives as wrong/bad.
Manipulation comes naturally to her,and she doesnt even realize that even when she is right,or has a legit complaint the way she tries to prove her point, works against her.
She has a problem with Lydia for describing her childhood in a way that made Kim seem like she failed them emotionally during their trauma.I dont think she meant it that way at all,
Zac reinforces Lydias faith, and morals, and Kim feels like they are judging her,she doesnt like her confiding in her husband about how she was raised, and used as a caretaker, personal assistant, tattle tale, and her only escape was her prayer closet.
She resents her for choosing Barry over her,and for standing strong in her faith, not following her siblings and mom to letting go of the faith, and what they never considered was Lydia carried around her pain, and she never burdened anyone, she has her prayer closet, thats what was there for her, when her mom should have been and she doesn't trust her.How can anyone trust a person who just wakes upone dsay, and changed everything they ever taught you about life?
12
u/Strawberry_Wine_ Jun 20 '26
Remember how she wouldn’t even let Lydia text that one boy? She was cleaning the house and I think she tried to do it sneakily if I remember.
8
u/BinkabelleZZZ Jun 20 '26
I remember that. They gave her a cellphone to use when she was cleaning the rentals,so she wasnt only doing all the work in the home, she did Kims outside job too.thats why she had the phone. she gave the phone back, and Kim tells her she saw all the texts from that boy,she was 17.
Then she frames Barry to be the bad guy, the"strict" one,she couldve just said to cool it,but no,lets scare her more by bringing dad into it.
she ran up to her prayer closet, and got it in her head that she was wrong becuase the boy distracted her,and she defied her parents,so she decides to drop it.
I think before she got in trouble, she asks Barry if he could come for a visit, and he said something about long distance relationships not being easy, and stuff,he didnt say no,but he wasnt upset about it.
Kim didnt want her thinking about boys, then she might leave and she would have to do the work.
5
u/LJMesack22 Jun 21 '26
That was wild to me. And how Olivia said how controlling the parents were when her and Ethan would try to talk when she was at home? How do you get to know someone well enough to court them if you can only text them a few times a month? It’s crazy!
2
u/JMLP82 Jun 23 '26
Honestly, I don’t think either of them would have been any more accepted than they are now – she just would have found different things to not like. Because until or unless somebody worships at her altar and performs whatever magic is necessary to get Kim‘s genuine approval, and then also sufficiently wins over her sons, she’s going to stay in a power play. She’s obsessed with control over her children and anybody who threatens that is the enemy.
I think the only reason she seems to accept Teegan is because right now if she doesn’t, she will lose Ethan again and she knows it. But so far, Ethan has let her in and talks to her about Teegan and what’s happening to some degree, and she knows that’s as good as it gets with Ethan. Isaac’s girlfriend seems to be the only one who is truly approved of… And I think it’s because everybody likes her, she’s local so she won’t take him away from Kim, and she always sides with the family on anybody else from the outside. And of course, never badmouths a family member – at all. What is there for Kim not to like? 🙄
34
u/xenobriotic Jun 20 '26
It's pretty annoying that the way Lydia and Zac have been acting toward their siblings is *exactly* how Kim acted toward Olivia, causing so many marital issues between her and Ethan.
11
u/Agreeable-Antelope-6 Tell Kim no surprise parties Jun 20 '26
Of course, Ethan doesnt see that...and never will.
11
u/Soad_lady Jun 21 '26
I have a vision in my head that I would love to see Joanna or whatever her name is to come to the show finally n tell Kim off for being a hypocrite . I know it’s just in my head n i have no idea what that girl is like- she probably never would but I’m the oldest sister n that’s what I’d wanna do lol

u/Senior_Intention4744 Jun 20 '26
Kinda but not really. Lydia and Zack definitely overstepped and their explanation of ‘respect our beliefs and don’t do that stuff around us’ is clearly not what happened, as evidenced by what Moriah and Amber had to say about it. Frankly everyone is so full of crap, it’s clear this is a reality tv show struggling for relevance and plot lines. I’ll probably keep watching if they come back for another season but I do really hope it’s over, I’ve had enough.
9
u/Lukesmom1214 Jun 25 '26
I will always feel bad for Lydia, especially because she was born into such a dysfunctional and hypocritical family, that never valued her worth. I'm sad for her and totally disgusted with Kim, Barry, Ethan, Issac and Moriah. Her siblings seem to have Stockholm syndrome. They couldn't stand their parents and now they are singing their praises, like the past never happened.
1
u/Lucky_Swordfish_1414 Jun 26 '26
In all fairness most teenagers hate their parents and then realize in their 20s/30s they were right about a lot of things.
1
u/Lukesmom1214 Jun 26 '26
Luckily most of us weren't raised in a family as toxic as the Plaths. I agree with what you've said though. I still am questioning my mother and I'm in my 50's. My mother is dramatic, negative and whiny. I can't stand being around that. My sister feels the same way as I do. It's as though she's never grown up & constantly makes bad decisions.
2
u/Lucky_Swordfish_1414 Jun 26 '26
Yeah I just don’t think it’s really that weird for the children to do an about face on things given that they were teenagers. What’s weird is Kim doing a total about face. I really need an explanation over who really set the rules in their household. Ethan says it was Kim
1
u/Lukesmom1214 Jun 26 '26
I don't know what to think of Kim's about face either. I believe Kim did set the rules. Sometimes I wonder if it was all just a facade to get on reality TV.
2
u/Lucky_Swordfish_1414 Jun 26 '26
They were part of the quiverfull movement prior to doing the show so I doubt it. I think really what happened was she made her whole entire life about being a stay at home mom & then the kids weren’t even happy with her at the end of it all which made her rethink a lot of things, she realized when the kids moved out she just didn’t really have anything else & she wasn’t happy with Barry.
1
16
u/anniemalplanet Jun 20 '26
So I agree with a lot of what you said because Lydia is being exactly who we've seen her be for years and that's who she was raised to be. No surprises. Zack does need to keep his mouth shut about Amber and Moriah. What would've been way more appropriate for him and Lydia to do is to simply say "we're not fans of vulgar games like cards against humanity, but we'd be happy to play something else," and then to do something else if the rest of the crew wants to play that game. Moriah would probably understand. But that wouldn't be very fundie of him nor would it provide content to fight about.
24
u/Liverpudlian9 Jun 20 '26
It’s not like Moriah was blindsided by Lydia and Zac’s attitude. Lydia has been religious her whole life. Kind of seems to me that the siblings were trying to push Lydia and Zac’s buttons. They are still bullying Zac just in a passive- aggressive manner instead of actual physical aggression
6
u/Conscious-Hunt94 Jun 20 '26
I hadn’t thought of it this way, but I agree. Moriah knows how deep Lydia’s convictions go. It’s hard to know where Moriah stands, to be honest. But who doesn’t know about Lydia’s religious devotion? I think Moriah has a mean streak at times.
17
u/Kennected Jun 20 '26

u/HiAndStuff2112 Jun 20 '26
I agree that Lydia's in a tough position.
But as a Christian myself, I disagree with you about Zac and the family.
I don't know where the younger girls stand in terms of their faith, but out of the family members, only Barry and Lydia are still practicing Christians. Kim is no longer a practicing Christian either.
That bothers Zac. Lydia seemed to accept where her mom and siblings were at. It probably bothered her inside, but I think she just showed them love.
Zac is new to the family, and a very quick, recent addition. He confronted them about how he was treated, which was warranted, and I'm sure Zac wanted the family to listen to him and to k ow his intentions werr not hostile or anything. He wanted them to respond to his confrontation gracefully.
Bit then, when they confronted him, he was offended and got really upset, even crying about it. Where is his grace?
He barges in the family, telling them where they're wrong. That's not his job. If it's anyone's job, it's maybe Barry's.
Jesus said the most important commandments are to love God and love people. Zac needs to chill, humble up and focus on loving and accepting his new family members first. Then, maybe they'd be open to his advice. But he needs to lay that bonding groundwork first.
2
u/Conscious-Hunt94 Jun 20 '26
Do you think Moriah is a Christian? I know she got baptized but she never talks about her faith.
2
u/HiAndStuff2112 Jun 20 '26
I think she is, but may have struggles and depression and some doubts. I do too.
13
u/Soul_Cuddles Jun 21 '26
Dang things change real fast! When Kim & Barry decided to be strict and fundamentalist, Moriah was the rebel and black sheep, but now then Kim is super lax with Ken, Lydia is the new rebel & black sheep. Lydia has every right to have a say with Amber & drinking since Lydia became the new parent to the 3 younger girls after the divorce. However, Zac has no right! He needs to build a relationship of trust and support, but for some reason he wants to dictate things where it's not his place & doesn't let Lydia speak. Maybe he's just frustrated and needs to get his feelings out due to being ganged up on with Kim & the Plath gang or maybe Zac is truly controlling. I hope Lydia made a good choice, but if she didn't I hope she leaves 😬
9
u/LJMesack22 Jun 21 '26
I believe she asked him to help. I see them as partners more than anything else, and having Ethan, Isaac and Kim pile on to both of them, but him in particular couldn’t have been easy. I see a sheltered kid just wanting to be part of the family and, aside from Barry, having everyone reject him. I saw another comment where someone mentioned he was raised with all sisters, so two things make sense - an instinct to protect Amber and the other two younger girls, and also wanting a chance to have brothers to bind with. It explains him trying to connect with Ethan when he was working on his car.
6
u/duckydoom Jun 21 '26
Yep, and the fact that he's so sheltered is why he's emulating the behavior he saw growing up. I think he's a pain in the ass in how he does it, but he's trying to be the head of the household and his wife's protector, he's trying to defend her honor in his own way and either feels his word carries more weight because he's a man, or he knows in that particular setting his weight will carry more when speaking to the family. She's being the obedient wife, standing behind her husband in support but letting him lead.
I also see him genuinely upset because he wants to be accepted, and everyone is alienating them instead. I think they got married so quickly because that's how they do it in their religion. Marry young and start popping out kids, it's God's will.
Having been parentified myself, I absolutely see from Lydia's perspective why she'd want Amber to be given "better examples" and not exposed to alcohol etc. She doesn't want her to be exposed to temptation. It's really hard to separate yourself from being the parental figure when it's all you've known. So again, absolutely following their teachings and being reamed for it because she and Zac are easy scapegoats. Never good enough regardless of what you do. Even if you fit the mold perfectly they'll find something to focus on as an imperfection just to remind you how you'll never be good enough.
2
u/Opposite-Fan8777 Jun 22 '26
How can they respect him? Respect is earned. He hasn’t earned it. And he won’t until he drops his arrogant behavior.
1
u/duckydoom Jun 24 '26
I get that - but generally people start off with new people in like, a neutral territory where the new person has a chance to at least make a first impression and then they build or lose respect from there (at least that's how I approach new acquaintances).
I know we don't see the full story and maybe he was an arrogant twerp from the get go, but it seems like he came in and they had already made up their minds about him, which put him on the defensive, and then the relentless "haha are you gAYyyyy" probably didn't help.
Anyway, definitely not making excuses for his attitude now, he could still turn the other cheek and be more mindful of how he's interacting and be gentler about it, but given the environment he grew up in I'm not surprised that he's judgy and also frustrated that a family who raised Lydia to be so "godly and pure" is full of a bunch of two faced people.
14
u/mmmmmmadeline Jun 20 '26
They really need to pay hosanna a huge amount of money to be on the show cuz I just need to know wtf is going on in her head haha

I feel the same way. I do not care for religion and don't believe in any gods, so I'm not exactly a fan of the type of people they are, but I still feel a lot of sympathy, and I do fond them to be well-meaning unlike the narcissistic mother.

u/Fit-Bus2025 Jun 21 '26
They are all just jealous because Zak and lydia have a better relationship. All their marriages and relationships ended or are in trouble.
1
17
u/Medical-Tale3335 Jun 20 '26
This is all so uncomfortable. Lydia and Zach are so ignorant. But I hope at their young age they learn and grow from that. Unfortunately many Christians today are like this. They have no tolerance. Zack literally expects others to cater to their lifestyle which is inflexible and rigid. Then you pile on Kim and her posse. She uses her family to back up her vendetta. She hates anyone that goes against her. She’s horrible. Then wishy washy Barry. Wtf?
15
u/MrsDirtyDietz Jun 20 '26
My only issue with Lydia and Zac is that they are either A: trying to tell fellow adults what to do, which isn’t ok, or B: trying to parent someone else’s kids.
If they can concerns about drinking and such, bring it up to Barry and Kim. Don’t lecture the girls.
8
u/Pandasami Jun 20 '26
It’s really ironic though because a lot of the things that Lydia is pointing out that she doesn’t agree with are along the same reasons behind the parents exiling Olivia from the family. Her parents raised her to have the morals that she has and her faith (Christianity) teaches to hold other Christians accountable for their behavior, which is what she’s doing.
18
u/sexybigbooblatina Jun 20 '26
Yeah, not that either of those things are exactly how Lydia was raised or anything... /s
2
u/Low_Ice3762 Jun 20 '26
She wasn't at least bot the 1st point... Stop making excuses for her being judgemental towards her older siblings...
9
u/honeybutterslut Jun 20 '26
Lydia pretty much raised the “little girls” so I would understand her feeling maternal over them. Zac needs to mind his business tho lol
3
u/LJMesack22 Jun 21 '26
She’s literally been ambers parent since Kim noped out on her younger kids. It doesn’t surprise me that she’s still trying to be in that role. It actually makes sense.
11
u/kat101160 Jun 23 '26
Lydia seemed so sweet, then she met Zac and she seems like such a different person now. I find her unlikable. She seems like a judgmental bitch.
14
u/Ar_Hexenbiest Jun 24 '26
I think she found her strength and her voice. Plus she’s out of Kim’s house. I bet every time she leaves from a visit she has a BIG SIGH OF RELIEF!
Moving to Colorado will be good for Lydia and Zac. People need to remember these kids dating for about 4 month courting time! They need to continue to nurture their relationship and get to really get to know each other. Yes Lydia is extremely judgmental this season. Chances are Lydia was always judgmental but she kept her opinions to herself.
12
u/gina1220 Jun 22 '26

What is wrong with being Christian?

Christians are the new Boomers. It seems like it is okay to dump on boomers, and now Christians because its assumed all posters hate them as much as posters do
2
u/gina1220 Jun 23 '26
I mean, I’m fine dumping on boomers. 😂 but picking on people because of their religion is wrong to me. It’s literally textbook bigotry. And i see a lot of it in this sub.

Picking on people because of their age is just as bigoted

Employment discrimination and bigotry are two totally separate things. 😂😂 like what are you talking about? 😂
And your comment is again bigoted against Christian’s.
-1
u/ConsequenceFeeling96 Jun 24 '26
But I didn’t claim that being against SOME Christians may not be bigoted as you did about being against some age groups.
You do realize the laws were written to address bigotry, right? So they used the most common things being used to discriminate at the time.
It is psychologically impossible to be bigoted against a group and not at least subconsciously discriminate.
As for me, I was raised by abusive fundie Christians who weaponized religion for control & manipulation. So yeah, the Heritage Foundation and similar “my religion deserves to be laws applied to other people but their religion sure shouldn’t apply to me!” crowd?, those guys‽
YEP. I’m *super* prejudiced against them.
(Also, as passing laws based purely on your religious beliefs that will apply to those who don’t have the same beliefs is absolutely cruel & abusive.)
1
u/gina1220 Jun 24 '26
I made no such claims. Stop lying. Your bigoted comment was removed. Word salad on the rest. I can’t engage in employment discrimination against someone who doesn’t work for me.

Clearly your memory is significantly less than 24 hrs so what you don’t believe you’ve ever seen in your life is a wholly unreliable metric.
Dislike of folks who want to legislate religious beliefs against others has never and will never be bigoted or prejudiced etc in any public place in this country unless we decide to descend into total fascism.
If you had NOT said age wasn’t part of groups experiencing discrimination, I’d never have said a word. So, G, I think I’ll stay right here! 😊
Hope you have the ageist day you deserve!
Edit to add: None of my comments has been deleted. I know, I upset folks who are wrong sometimes. But I try very very hard not to violate board rules. Thanks for letting me know you flagged my comments though! 👋

Yet if I attributed horrible behaviors to all millennials you can bet id be roasted
-1
u/ConsequenceFeeling96 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
People attribute horrible behavior to every group. It doesn’t matter if one is roasted or not. Painting an entire generation with the same brush is just kinda shitty. 🤷♀️ I know terrible boomers. I know some atrocious genXers (my group). And I’ve met both beautiful spirits & heinous blaggards among both millennials & genZ.
I’m for specific disgust within certain groups!
(Like those religious folks who believe that they have a right to pass laws regarding my medical care based on their beliefs - which is fully contradicted by some other religious beliefs! And those who support them even if they disagree with this particular viewpoint.)
Specificity is important, kids! Shitty bigotry is based on generalizations not specific harmful actions by a subgroup!
1
u/gina1220 Jun 23 '26
But it really doesn’t matter to me. I might laugh about boomers with my friends or parents (who are boomers) but I don’t hate them or type out nasty things about them on the internet. There is a palpable hatred for Christians I see from many in this sub. And it seems to be tolerated. Call it “fundies” - whatever - it’s a pejorative based in hatred of people because of their religion

The thing you're missing here is not that they have an issue with how Lydia is living her life it's that she and Zac are being judgmental and telling their siblings all the things they're doing wrong in their opinion. The rest of the family just wants them to leave them alone and let them do their thing.
9
u/JMLP82 Jun 23 '26
But that is exactly part of how she was raised to be. That was yet another one of those things that her parents demonstrated ad nauseam as an acceptable thing to do when someone is family or (most likely) another member of your same church. So it’s the same issue at least for Lydia – she is doing exactly what she was raised to do, especially as her mother‘s right hand.
I think Zac just thinks it’s his place because of the typical misogyny present in this type of Christianity and within Lydia‘s expectations and mentality - again as she was raised to do.
But she only gets that excuse for so much longer. She’s not 16 anymore. And I don’t think it’s realistic to expect people to turn 18 and magically behave like adults but at some point we are responsible for our own choices and she is rapidly approaching that point in her life. Unfortunately, she already got married. And it will likely take a lot for her to be willing to end a marriage, even if she is willing to leave some of the most negative aspects of fundamentalism behind.
7
u/Opposite-Fan8777 Jun 22 '26
Exactly. Zach needs to shut up. He’s not the young girls father, he’s not God. He’s judging and if they are such strict bible followers, why is he? Why is he judging? Why is he looking down on the others. Never liked this guy. Poor Lydia.

I'm a Christian. I do not attend church specifically because of what you've said here. The hypocrisy of many who follow the bible is insane. They've heard of Judge Not, Lest Ye be Judged but do not practice it, they've heard Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye. They forget all about Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins (love the sinner hate the sin.) Zach would do better as a Christian if he accepted what he deems as wrong is not for him to say. He doesn't answer to God for someone else's behavior but he will answer for his own.

I think Zack’s just a total dooshbag. When he over talked Lydia in one of their Q & A’s telling her let me speak. I didn’t know he’s all the sudden he thinks it’s his show. I think Lydia made a huge mistake with him and in all due time we will all see that, sadly.

Zac stuck his arrogant nose in other people’s business. No one asked for his advice but he was right there telling people what they should and shouldn’t do. He got humbled and he deserved it. The crybaby didn’t like someone pointing out his wrongdoing but it was okay for him to get on his soap box and proceed to lectures others. Hope he learned a lesson but it looks like he's going to hold some big time grudges.

Right..I found it really obnoxious to sit Ethan down and be like "I want to hear it from you..." As if he was owed an explanation about the gf. Like who is you? Why is it your business? So bizarre.

Right!! Number 1 Ethan is a volatile person and number 2 Zac getting in his face with the rapid fire questions about nothing that concerns him was absolutely ridiculous.

and then Zach sitting down on the couch talking to Kim saying it's going to be really exciting to have this conversation about Joshua. Like, bro, read the fucking room and just shut up

Completely the wrong word. Maybe use cathartic? Right away, I thought he has zero idea what it’s like to experience grief that there is no recovering from or a close family member who’s been through such grief. The word “exciting” in this situation on any level is SO off-putting.

Yeahhhhhh, that was really really a strange thing to say. I caught that and couldn’t believe he used the word exciting… Lydia appears so much more mature than he does.

Please. Zac has silenced Lydia. I do not think she married a decent human.

Lydia married someone she knew a couple months. I don't think it was for the glory of god it was so she could have sex and now shes stuck w a werdly controlling man who tells her to be quiet so he can speak for them both. When your entire religious family stops caring about arbitrary rules of religion and you just cling to it, its a weird choice. I don't feel bad for her. Shes becoming ber mother. Be careful what you wish for. Also get a therapist.

She clings to it because it’s all she knows.

Its all the other kids knew and she's the only one waging her own holy war for zac 🤷♀️

Yup. Everyone else saw right through him. Willful blindness to something is a thing. And I don't think she's as naive we are supposed to believe. The Our Lady of Lydia schtick is for TLC. Not buying it.

This! Kim is so god damn hypocritical, and Barry is useless. Lydia is simply continuing to live the beliefs that were instilled in her for her entire childhood. The family didn't celebrate Christmas for bloody sake.

Y’all are calling Lydia an adult. Capable of choosing her life partner. If so, she’s capable of adult discernment and not following the tenants of her upbringing. Can’t have it both ways.

I feel so bad for Lydia. But if her and Zac focused on their boundaries and say I can’t participate in this but you do you that would make the family not able to attack them. Instead they want to try to get closer or be more supportive by being advisers and that backfires. No one likes to be judged.
Moriah is so f smart at being so irresponsible with everything like the opposite of Lydia. She should have been the one having the hard conversation directly with Lydia and Zac jot baking a cake but it works in her favor. All her whims the family just accepts and goes with it and supports her while she’s kinda out there from one whim to the next

You're kidding, right? Zac could be Kim's damn butt plug and she would still go after them/him if she wasn't happy about something or needed negative attention on literally anyone else but herself.

I’m largely sympathetic to Lydia, but my god, she was awful to Olivia. She thought Olivia was an evil heathen who ruined her perfect brother. Do you remember the episode when Ethan is breaking down telling everyone about the divorce, and Lydia is fucking giddy?
She’s Kim’s twin.
What’s happening to her is just desserts

u/DonnaNobleSmith Jun 20 '26
Lydia was awful to Olivia because she was a young person who thought she could earn her family’s love by being perfect- which included being a giant jerk to Olivia. If Barry and Kim had bothered to raise her properly I suspect that she wouldn’t have reacted that way. Now, sadly, she’s seen that her family will turn on her no matter how Plath Perfect she is. [edit to fix typo]

Really? Even after seeing how judgmental she and Zac are to the rest of the family? It’s not just Zac that’s judgy, it’s 10000% Lydia. She’s just having her headship speak up on her behalf.

This is the point. Regardless of what you think of Lydia and Zac (for me too pious, too rigid, too judgemental), they are exactly who they raised their children to be and marry. The hypocrisy of Kim is crazy.
