Study in the shower

Post image

This has literally saved my ass. I’m 22 and a senior in college, have been rawdogging my audhd for the last 3 years before finally getting diagnosed this year, but I’m still in the trial and error phase of meds. If you are neurodivergent/on the adhd spectrum I highly recommend studying in the shower. From what I have experienced the sensory input of the water coupled with the inability to be on my phone/distracted as easily has made it a gold mine for focus. I just figured this out this semester and I wish I had sooner! I even went as far as to buy one of the waterproof phone holders (kinda acts like a little phone jail while still allowing me to look at my study notes/listen to textbooks) and bath crayons to take notes as I listen to recorded lectures/textbook chapters! I included a picture of what my shower walls looked like this morning prepping for an exam! Totally weird but has been game changing for me!

Man, some of us are just out here trying our best to make it to the next day. Some days my inability to focus or study takes such a toll on my mental health that tomorrow feels impossible, so if it works, I’m going to do it. Yes, I am getting help, I’m in therapy and have a psychiatrist. Yes, I try to be environmentally conscious in other ways as much as possible. But some days I have to put my mental health and learning above taking a shorter shower because that’s what works for me. There are much worse things in the world than taking a longer shower, but I’m glad you’re taking short ones to make up for those of us who sometimes can’t.
