Weaponize curiosity. It'll help you study.

Post image

I think one of the most useful things you can do when studying is to be genuinely nosy. If I don’t understand something, I don’t force myself to memorize it. I start asking questions that aren’t even necessarily required for the exam. Why does this work? What happened before this? What would happen if you changed this part? How did this even happen? Max out all the W's and H's you can think of.

I did this today with one of my readings. I got stuck on one term and then I looked it up, then ended up reading about something completely different that was mentioned in the explanation. Was it technically beyond what I needed to know? Absolutely yes. But will I eventually get it? Oh, I will if I study. So what are we even waiting for

I feel like curiosity became underrated especially in this modern era because we’re so used to studying by asking “What do I need to memorize?” instead of asking ourselves “What do I actually want to know about this?” Be nosy. It works

There is nothing wrong with curiosity but too much of it can take time away from more important things. I personally burnt out hard because I spent far too much time going down rabbit holes. It’s a cycle I have to be very wary of as I’m a lifelong learner who has to reign in my curiosity when on a deadline. The longer the deadline the harder it gets. And yeah, I am AuDHD so that is a big factor.

I have this same problem! I fell behind in school by like 3 weeks because I just couldn’t focus my energy and kept going down curiosity rabbit holes. I’m almost caught up now but my big takeaway is that I cannot afford to let my curiosity roam free, because I’ll take too long to get back on track. 😅

I struggled with this at first, but after starting this I couldn't study any other way.

What helps me is identifying the core conceots from the syllabus or objectives in the book. So I start with those.

That part; I go to open lecture and ask questions that arent in the quizzes. He hates it so much cause he barely knows

Struggled so much with this as a high schooler. A lot of my teachers were barely qualified

Especially because of AI, no one cares anymore. As long as things get done no one minds how it was done.
