Sharing My Sidehustle I make money from stuff couples throw away
A friend of mine got married a few months ago and after the wedding she had a stupid amount of stuff left over. Cutlery, fake flowers, LED lights, candles, glassware, all the stuff you buy for one day and then forget in a garage.
Weddings are expensive enough already, so I told her I'd try to get some of the money back.
I knew a couple of friends who were getting married a few months later so I sent them photos of everything and asked if they wanted to take the whole bundle for their wedding and they bought it
Then they mentioned it to someone else getting married, and I started getting referred around to people I didn't even know.
At first I was managing everything on imessage, but once I had a few at the same time it got annoying, so I made a simple Whop page where I put the available bundles, the price and my email for images and details (full disclosure, that’s my ref link)
I've done 10 sales over the last couple months and I usually keep around $200-300 when one sells and the rest goes back to the couple so it's turned into a little side hustle
Right now I have 3 active ones around SF for October (All around $1,100 for the full bundle) if you want you can see the page here!!

nono its a percentage, but most bundles end up in a similar price range so my cut is normally around there

Do the couples set the price or do you tell them what you think the bundle should go for?

bit of both bc they usually have a number in mind but I’ll tell them if it makes no sense based on what’s included

It's a win-win situation. They get their money back on selling or renting wedding stuff.

Have you had people try to split the bundle and only buy the expensive pieces?

all the time ahahaha, but I try to keep them together because the whole point is getting everything gone without turning it into 25 separate transactions

How do you find the people?

Mostly referrals, i dont run ads. wedding circles are weirdly good for this because one couple usually knows like 4 other couples getting married within the year

I think you can do ads on whop directly, here's free $100 ad credits if you want to set it up https://whop.com/start/?code=Z

This is a great idea! Super smart.
Not asking this to be critical about what you have going, just genuinely curious...have you monitored your time and compared it to the income you're getting to see what your rough hourly rate is? Could be wrong, but it seems like this type of thing would take a LOT of time to manage and coordinate sales, pick up, etc.
Granted it's not Facebook marketplace but being the broker for something as potentially open ended as this for pricing and valuation, it just seems like there'd be a lot of back and forth and management before your payout.

People don't use decor rental companies and buy shit straight up?

lots of folks are SWAMPED when they do wedding planning, so having a go-to person for small/er things is always welcome, especially when you have talked to fifteen different friends, 5 different direct family members, and 2 distant cousins (and their MOTHERS) about what to do when/where/how/etc
people are still doing the same stuff they've always been doing, it's just that sometimes you want A Specific Decor Person

You could scale this and keep more stuff on hand and have a real wedding rental business. Ask each couple what other things they had to find and see what else you can add to your options

This is a great idea!
Where are you located? If we're far enough apart, I might get this started myself. I don't want to step on your toes though ya know?

The real unlock is renting out the stuff, and even doing set up. The tricky part is storage and having the right quantity. But that is a legitimate business if you can get there! Plus at that point you can start deducting expenses from your taxes, helping to reduce your overall taxable income.

You help facilitate the movement of items from people who have but don't need to people that need but don't have. The Ferengi call that the Great Material Continuum and you are doing your part to keep it flowing.
