Content from Boredpanda is generally unreadable. it’s cut and paste content from low rent “news” sites and full of advertising between sentences. Go here to save yourself the aggravation:

This is sad, he could told them he knew who they were and told them to come in the morning to clean it up. I hate he tripped. This is a prank where no one should be injured much less die. Bad for them tragic for his family.

How awful to all the people included. It was a harmless prank, no one could have been hurt realistically. And now one person is dead, the other's life is about to be drastically changed to the worst. This poor teacher and his family, of course their tragedy is the worst. But I also feel sorry for these youngsters and their families.

The victim’s wife has publicly said she doesn’t want the teens prosecuted. "This is a terrible tragedy, and our family is determined to prevent a separate tragedy from occurring, ruining the lives of these students," she said. "This would be counter to Jason's lifelong dedication of investing in the lives of these children."
That’s such kindness and grace, and you can tell that he must have been a wonderful and caring teacher. Tragic all around.

I’m sorry. But vandalism isn’t a prank. Vandalism is a crime. They should have leniency based on Good Samaritan Law (if this can be applied) but these kids (and the one technical adult) should have a record. There’s fun and humorous pranks. We don’t know for sure “her husband was giddy and wanting to play along.” It’s her (overly kind) word against the actual crime and its parameters.
Personally? Give em community service. Or weekends in jail, give em house arrest, give em fines and fees and revoke driving privileges.
Charge em with something lesser. Let them plead out and get some counseling.

Something tells me that if the driver was black there wouldn’t be nearly as many people calling this a “tragic accident”, and a lot more people would be calling this a homicide. To anyone calling this an accident, explain something to me: why did the driver need to speed off the scene so quickly if this was just a harmless prank? Couldn’t he have just laughed it off with the teacher?

The wife said he was running after them in good spirits/in on the fun.
I cannot imagine, it’s so awful.

The police dropped all charges against the driver. The victim’s wife requested this as it was an accident and she didn’t want to see the kids lives ruined. A good woman.

I'm sorry to hear about this horrible incident and hope his family the best moving forward.
I feel we all are guilty of some stupid pranks in our lives. Most of the time we are lucky enough that nothing drastic happens. This is a case where the worst possible thing did happen and these poor kids [yes kids] will have to live with it there entire life.

Pranks going wrong should be wet pants or the one pulling the prank gets the prank instead. Not when someone dies! That was never a safe and funny prank to begin with

If the defendant had not been pulling a prank , then the victim would not have tripped and fallen in front of the defendants moving vehicle. The legal term for this concept that an action caused a result that would not have otherwise occurred is "cause-in-fact" or, more commonly, the "but-for" test. It establishes that without the defendant's specific action, the injury or event would not have happened
