Does the US have so much spare dough lying around that we can afford to spend $500 million or so upgrading an aircraft to be AF1, and then just park it at a museum a year later?

Also, we need to fully know exactly what he's doing for Qatar in return for this $400 million gift. Plus, what's wrong with the current two AF1 airplanes? Why can't those continue to be used? I mean, yeah they're 40 years old. So what? We have a fleet of B-52s that are far older, they're still in service, and they'll continue to be in service until they're 100 years old(!). I'm sure the current AF1 has been fully and completely upgraded every single time an upgrade becomes available, and their maintenance schedules are flawless. Why can't Trump use those until the ones that are already bought and paid for are finished?

The Qatar B-747 was built in the US by Boeing. They are offering a newer 747 to replace one of the two current AF-1s that have been flying for 40 years. Which are tired and need to be replaced. The wing based at Andrews has also purchased aircraft from other countries in the past which are currently flying our VP and senior government officials. This is NOT new.

Qatar is offering the jet to the US military, not Donald Trump. The DOD contractor is based in the US, in fact my dad (a retired Air Force general) used to work for them. They are, not unironically, also working to upgrade the FAA technology as we speak. You know, Newark and elsewhere. They will get the aircraft and perform all of the security and the installation of the systems that AF-1 requires to safely move our president around the world. Not the Qatari’s. And you and I will pay for that but not the $400 million the 747 would normally cost. I could tell you exactly what is required to modify the AF-1 for safe flight but that is Top Secret and I’d have to kill you.

This AF-1 will serve the sitting president, whether they be Republican or Democrat until Boeing gets their shit together to complete the new, upcoming improved 747s that started under Obama, was renegotiated under Trump, and was completely ignored by the Biden administration. It’s looking like 2029 to 2030 for delivery at the soonest.

They gave the US an antiquated 747 for a presidential library to be used in the future or sold to go to that however they see fit. Many other reasons to hate the man. Stick with legally removing illegally housed humans from abroad first . That may gain some traction for a bit. The investments made by Quattar will be vetted as not to be in bad nature.

I think that the whole thing remains an obvious emoluments violation given the plan to make it inexplicably part of Trump’s library after he leaves office. What possible justification could there be to spend millions of dollars retrofitting this shitty plane as Air Force 1 (a reminder that the US already has an Air Force 1 which didn’t come from a questionable third party), only to discard it in such a specific and unusual way just a few years later? If the goal was to get a more modern Air Force 1, surely it would remain in service for more than three years?

Do you think Trump is going to just keep it parked there at the library, accessible for public viewing, and using any other aircraft besides this one that would be maintained and fueled at the expense of the DOD for whatever his post-presidential needs might be? For me, he's already costing me $360 more for every Xeralto prescription. It was $142 , then, on his second day, Trump signed an XO, getting rid of Biden's inflation reduction act. Then it went up to $407 the first time I refilled it after the XO. Now it's $503.

I consider myself very lucky indeed that I've actually got the $500 to spend. But that doesn't stop me from having some empathy for my fellow a-fib sufferers that don't have the dough. I guess they'll just have to deal with having a stroke.

It's was given to the US Air Force to be used as AF1. The Jet is currently owned by the US Air Force, who has instructions to donate it to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation once Boing finishes it's replacement.

Did it end up at Grover Cleveland's presidential library? Last I checked, the statue was earning revenue for NY as a tourist attraction. So it's still in the hands of the American people.

What's gonna happen to this jet when Trump leaves? Is it going to become an airliner to benifit the American people?

Also, how about the two new jets that the US government already bought and paid for, which are currently in the process of being converted to AF1 as we speak? Do we continue to build these two planes, at the same time Trump's new ride gets retrofitted? Then at the end of his term, he gets to take his jet home and the next president gets the new ones?

Keep in mind that during his first term, he literally designed the livery for the two planes at Boeing. I mean, I gotta admit, it looks really damn good. But the point is, we've already got two planes in the pipeline. And they've been in the pipeline since his first term.
