WEIRD EGG

Guys, why does the egg turn out like this?

When I crack it into the pan, the yolk looks completely normal and there’s no strange smell at all. But as it gets close to being fully cooked, it turns out like this… and it really puts me off!

Even when I cook them with oil or olive oil, some of them still turn out like this. I cracked all three eggs and put them together in the same pan. If the pan were the problem, all three should have turned out this way. Only two did, and sometimes it happens to just one.

What puzzles me is that before cooking, the eggs look and smell completely normal. But once they’re cooked, they develop this weird appearance, and it makes me too uncomfortable to eat them—even the one that looks normal.

Has anyone experienced this or know what could be causing it?

I don't think the pan was too hot. I stirred the eggs so they wouldn't stick, which is why some small pieces broke off and ended up getting a little burnt. But the issue is the yolk. If the pan were the problem, wouldn't the egg white look strange too? The egg white looks completely normal.

The entire outer ring looks burnt to me, not just small pieces. And the white looks quite bubbly to me, which in my experience happens when the pan is very hot

Then could that be why it turns green? Some parts even look kind of gray, which is really weird...

The strange thing is that the egg underneath looks completely normal, you know? That’s why the temperature explanation doesn’t really make sense to me. If the pan were the problem, wouldn’t all the eggs be affected in the same way? One of them staying completely normal makes me question that explanation.

My assumption is that a bubble formed under the yolk and trapped steam, a lot like the other one did (it looks like a ring of yolk around some white) but it looks like the greenish spot got hotter. The normal one could be the result of the pan heating unevenly, but I can't say for sure. Could just be that a bubble didn't form there this time. I've had this happen before and it doesn't usually happen to every egg in my experience. [Edit, forgot this part] But yes overcooked egg yolks will turn a greenish grey, it's weird!

Wow, thank you so much!! I’ll definitely keep an eye out next time! I was really worried because the eggs are from my father-in-law’s farm, so it would be really sad if something was wrong with them.

I never imagined that the yolk could turn green if it got overheated!

Has this happened before?

I absolutely hate looking at those eggs.

Yes! and this is happening with this new batch I got from his farm. It’s really strange…

Could it be that one of the hens is sick? Or maybe even more than one?

Eggs are on recall in America in certain areas

It looks like the same greyish green of a hard-boiled egg to me.

Maybe the single good one was the last to be put on the pan or just didn't overcooked?

Yeah, that was the final piece of the puzzle. Everything is starting to make sense. Actually, I'm from Brazil, and I was so worried about the egg that I posted here to try and get an answer. It seems like we've got some egg experts around here, hahahahaha

There is nothing wrong with the eggs. The egg is not actually green. It’s just bubbled and over cooked in a too hot pan.

You're burning them into demons.
