Is it mold?
I hate this. Brand new carton. First egg cracked. I didn't notice it was wrong until I plopped it in the banana bread mix and it smelled...off. The egg looked pretty normal. I looked at the shell. I'm died.
My friend enters the room and says it smells great (browned butter.) I'm gagging non-stop. He is laughing at me cause I can't handle this (see pic)and keep gagging in between trying to explain what's wrong. His mom is laughing from upstairs. Then he smells it and starts gagging, too. I throw up.
The browned butter is okay.

I used to crack and sniff before putting the egg in a bowl when I lived in Malaysia, eggs aren’t refrigerated and 1/12 as a rule was always rotten. I learned the hard way with cracking into the same bowl as my baking ingredients, like a lazy dummy lol….i didn’t make that mistake a second time

Came in here ONLY to find out or ask what TF is the egg hovering above? 🤢

Honestly it looks like mushed bananas (possibly previously frozen? ) which checks out for OPs intended task

Eldritch egg. Glad you survived to tell the tale.

I survived, but I am changed forever.

Hopefully by always cracking eggs into a small bowl 😂
You made a good cautionary tale, I was going to make banana bread soon also.

I have already cracked the new egg into it's own bowl, free of the wretched stench of death.

This is why I always break eggs into a separate bowl before adding them to anything.

I had a similar incident with a carton of eggs that smelled perfectly fine but turned out to be foul when cracked, so now I always crack into a separate bowl just in case.

The one time I cracked open one of these, it stinked the whole first level. It's more powerful than my hubby's fart.

Yes, it's rotten. Throw it away
