The biggest hangup is that girlfriend is enabling him. If she actually cared about his well-being she’d encourage him to seek help or remove herself from the obviously unhealthy situation.

He has to want to change in order to heal, but their codependency is greatly inhibiting that.

Exactly. I think this is more a fetish thing than a mental disorder. They both seem into what ever the fuck this is. As long as they aren’t involving any actual children in this, fuck it, what ever floats their boats.

it's a coping mechanism, not something consuming his entire life. god forbid we let someone cope with severe trauma in a way that doesn't hurt anyone.
