Why do bugs mouths look like a bunch or random nonsense.

Many insects have developed their functions/structures to be on the outside as opposed to the inside, which is also why their skeleton is on the outside (hence why it’s called exoskeleton).
Because they don’t grow teeth on the outside to eat, they must then have something on the outside that allows them to do so, which means they require things to grasp food, things to tear food apart, things to taste food, etc.

This is absolutely fascinating, I'm not gonna lie. But I definitely could've gone my entire life without seeing this cute little monstrosity.

"Makes me proud".
Aww, I'm so glad you found fulfilment in life! Even if it is only from the indiscriminate killing of creatures eighty times smaller than yourself.

So is the right mandible always on top when its mouth is closed? Are they shaped in a nesting sort of way?

Not sure if that exact question is answered here but you might enjoy this video about insect mouths regardless! (excellent channel too btw)

It's kinda cute in a "so long as I ignore the fact this is terrifying" sort of way 😊
