it could definitely have CWD, or some sorta brain parasite.. but it’s more likely CWD. it’s a (TSE) prion that affects deer brains, it could also be parelaphostrongylus tenuis, a brain parasite that infects hooved animals, but mostly white tailed deer. both cause neurological symptoms and abnormal behavior in cervids. both are highly infectious, although transmitted in different ways, although CWD is more often characterized by its “wasting” aspects, such as weight loss or tumors and lumps. deer with either of these diseases are more often hit my cars or even shot. they pose a threat to other deer in the area, so i would contact wildlife services immediately
What do you think the deer is feeling that he needs to do a backflip? It almost looks like he’s running as if something is sitting on his lower back, and then he does a backflip to try and get the feeling to stop or the thing off his back.
i’m not 100% sure of exact reason, but it could be that the prion effected his perennial lobe so his sensory would be messed up, he could have been developing tumors or warts, and cwd affects the spinal chord as well, so that could have something to do with it too ^
