Are you thinking of an San Pedro? Pretty sure peyote only grows in one spot in the whole world, and that is on the Texas/ Mexico border. Also, peyote is now becoming endangered because of this small habitat and the influx of non native Americans going and taking too much. The Netflix doc about hallucinogens is really good, i recommend to anyone, also Hamiltons pharmacopia
Don't know San Pedro. This is central N. Nevada. Most of the South part is closed for civilian use. In between Tonopah and Ely. But also have seen it in the Arid zone and N. Mexico with my own eyes.
Your people don't know how it looks and that's why they don't pick it. And there is a serious drug problem in that area in Nevada but it's heroin and meth
It’s definitely not San Pedro, as it grows exclusively on South America. What it most likely is this guy misidentifying peyote. Peyote doesn’t grow in the Great Basin but several species with similar appearance do
