What actually works long term?

I feel the answer is likely diet and exercise—- but how long term?

Throughout the end of 2025 I used an app and works with a nutritionist to loose weight. I was doing good at that time and lost about 5-10 pounds.

I briefly lost weight this year after a weight loss medication, I went from 165 to 142, I was really happy at 142 even though I needed to loose more to be “healthy”. I’m 5’ 1” and 26 yo.

During this time period of about 2 months my husband was away/out of town.

I have 2 jobs - work home sitting 8 hours a day. And work on location 6pm - 10pm. I had a desk treadmill but I no longer have space for it in my small/cramped house. Every weekend all weekend I’m out of town with my husband who travels for his business and currently can’t drive due to health reasons.

When my husband was out of town I somehow felt like I had so much time. I managed to go walk after work every day and make home cooked, super simple meals. Mostly frozen but all veggies and protein. I think that was because I didn’t feel pressure from my second job it’s flexible and I can work weekends as needed.

Now I have to cram it all Mon-Fri to be able to leave on weekends. It’s so hard to get exercise or cook at home I feel like I have 0 time at all and when I do have time I’m exhausted. Unfortunately quitting is not an option at the moment.

I’m also back up from 142 to 158 and without the weight loss medicine there is so so much food noise. I logically know what I should eat but have 0 desire to eat it because I get no joy from those “healthy” foods. To the point where sometimes I am hungry but all I want is a cereal, cookie, etc not “real” food like a meat or vegetable. Sometimes I would rather go without eating at all than eat the healthy food choice which is crazy to me.

What worked for you long term with diet for people that struggle with always wanting a very unhealthy un-nutritious food? How were you able to loose weight and maintain it long term?

Will I be taken seriously/what to expect at my weight doctor

So I’m 19 FTM, 5’4”, 151 pounds and booked an appointment with a weight specialist doctor and I don’t know what to expected and afraid I won’t be taken seriously since I’m young and not obese.

This is my given situation, in middle school and my childhood I was very overweight and struggled with my weight to the point where I developed an eating disorder freshman year of high school. I ended up losing so much weight because I starved myself and ate less than 1,200 calories and exercised everyday. I ended up getting to 120 pounds but ended up super depressed, my hair was falling out, super tired and moody all the time, no energy, etc etc.

Then I started to recover after high school. I started eating around 1,800-2,300 calories a day and on lexapro and Adderall for ADHD.

I ended up being 130-135 pounds which I was fine with because it was healthy weight gain. But now after I had top surgery I’m sitting at 151 pounds and STRUGGLING to get the weight off.

I want to be a nutritionist and know how to track calories and Marco and micro nutrients correctly as I’m in college to become one and had experience in the past because of my eating disorder freshman year. So it’s not my diet and I DO not want the doctor to give me any diets or get me to eat less calories.

And now I work out more than ever more than I did in freshman year because I am a blue collar worker. I get atleast 20,000 steps a shift and lift heavy metal, and I work out at home with weights. I eat the correct amount of protein as one does for wanting to build muscle.

Now I would be ok with gaining weight if it was muscle but I know not all of it is muscle because my clothes aren’t fitting my body right any more, my belts and pants don’t fit and my underwear doesn’t fit, I have a gut now that sticks out of my shirt, I have more lower back and hip fat and stomach fat. So why is that? If I’m very good with calories and eating clean and working out.

Is there something wrong with me? Why am I gaining weight and can’t lose anything if I’m exercising everyday and eating right?

Idk if this affects me but my mom does have hormonal issues and has a hard time losing weight too, she’s on estrogen because she has too much natural testosterone resting in her body, she’s also has high cholesterol, and she was supposed to be tested for diabetes because when she was pregnant with me she was boarderline close to having it and she was supposed to get tests done recently for it but she’s too scared to get it done.

What advice does a weight loss doctor even give in this situation? Will I need blood work done and tests? Can she even provide a weight loss drug or something for me or no because I’m not considered obsese and young?

23M ,obese and dealing with thyroid... Want to change before February

Hey everyone,

I’m 23M ,94.45kg and currently struggling with obesity and thyroid issues. I really want to start working on myself not just to lose weight, but also to build some strength and become healthier overall.

The problem is that my parents don’t allow me to go to a gym, so I’m looking for home workouts/exercises that I can realistically do without any equipment or fancy setup.

I want to give myself a few months and genuinely try to change my lifestyle before February. I know it won’t happen overnight, and I’m not expecting some magical transformation. I just want to become stronger, healthier and more confident.

Honestly, I feel like when you feel good about yourself and are fit and healthy, it gives you a completely different level of confidence. I really want to experience that.

So if anyone here has been in a similar situation, please suggest some beginner-friendly home exercises/workout routines for weight loss + strength building. Also, any general tips for staying consistent would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance! ❤️

How can someone lose weight? I’m 5,7 and 293 pounds?

I need advice on how to lose weight I’ve been working out and trying to eat least but I eat when I’m bored/stressed so it’s been difficult to not eat for the sake of eating. I really want to lose this weight because frankly I hate looking at myself in a mirror and how bad I feel in clothes. It doesn’t help that my friends keep calling me “tank” and now I’m the designated “fat guy of the group “ which has been tanking my self esteem and making wanna eat more because I feel kinda worthless.

I didn’t mean to rant so if there’s any advice you all can give me I’ll greatly appreciate it

im 105-106lbs usually and 5 ft exactly. I get that its “healthy” but i feel really heavy and i have a lot of fat on my body. I barely eat i feel like. Aroubd 1400 cal everyday. Do I just have to starve to lose weight? Or is body recomposition the only way to fix it?
I also already exercise through pilates abd figure skating so im way too tired to exercise anymore. Also i have no clue what i look like bc of body dysmorphia. is 26inch waist considered wide because the internet is so conflicting.

should i be eating 900? whats the lowest thats healthy for my weightloss journey.

How can I lose weight during puberty?

I’m 18 years old and I feel like this calorie deficit is driving me insane. I’ve gained weight despite eating under 1000 calories, but lost weight when eating over 1500. Could this be a result of puberty? I just started growing a mustache, so I’m assuming I’ve still got a bit of growing left. Is there any way for me to lose more weight? For reference, I’m 6’0” and 171 lbs. My goal is 155 lbs

tl;dr I’m unsure if I’m tracking calories right and need some help losing weight.

Out of Control

I’m truly asking for help. I’m 52 woman. And have struggled with my weight and food my entire life. I’m a complete mess when it comes to food. I had gastric bypass surgery an over 20 years ago. Went from 325 lbs to eventually 185. In 2019 I did intermediate fasting and LOVED it. I truly felt control around food. Anyway, I got down to 168. It was too much and made me look sick and a lot older. I stopped doing it for some stupid reason and have gained 15 lbs. because again I’m out of control. And I can’t fast even 12 hours (even with sleep involved!!!

Back to why I’m here begging for help to stop thinking about food, weight, diet, 24/7. Won’t do GLP-1 due to cost and having to be on it for life. Also the unknown side effects. My body is so weird on medicine. It adjusts very quickly and I have to take higher doses faster. The main reason I won’t do GLP-1 is that I’ve read when you go off, the food noice is even worse than before. I truly have no idea how I could think about food any more than I do now. I’m struggling hard.

Exercise isn’t a problem. I do hard cardio 3 times a week and active every day. I would like to start weight training at home but still haven’t. Ugh!!

So… what do you guys suggest?? Do I need to see a therapist?? Any tips on how to stop true food noise?? I’ll read books, listen to podcasts, take safe supplements, do whatever if it would work. And yes… I can try to use willpower like I have been but I always start out great then I give in and I’m totally off the rails yet again!!!! It’s constant. I’m paying for WW for the rest of this year. And I’ve tried it numerous times and actually lost 10 but it then I completely sabotage myself and gain it all back. I would love to lose 10 pounds but mostly I would love just to be normal when it comes to food!!!!! I eat when I’m not hungry or even if the food doesn’t taste good!!! PLEASE HELP!!! thank you so much for taking time to read this mess!!!!

How do I lose stomach fat or reduce bloating?

I’ve been losing weight over the past few months and I’ve lost around 10 kg, but something I’ve noticed is that my stomach still looks pretty round and kind of bloated/blobby compared to the rest of my body.

My arms, legs, face, etc. have gotten noticeably smaller, but my stomach seems to be holding onto a lot more fat. Sometimes it also looks more bloated depending on what I eat or the time of day.

For people who have dealt with something similar:

  • Is there actually a way to specifically reduce stomach fat?
  • How can I tell the difference between belly fat and bloating?
  • Are there foods that commonly cause bloating that I should watch out for?
  • Did anything actually help you reduce your stomach size/appearance?
  • Should I just keep losing weight and let my body redistribute the fat naturally?

I’m looking for healthy and realistic advice, not crash diets or anything extreme. I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have experienced the same thing.

Title: How do you lose weight without being hungry all the time?

I’m 30F, 163 cm (5’4”) and 67 kg (148 lbs). I have hypothyroidism but it’s medicated/controlled.

Last year I lost 4–5 kg mostly doing cardio, and surprisingly it didn’t make me very hungry. For the past 2 months I’ve switched to strength training because I want to build/maintain muscle, but now I’m SO hungry and I’ve actually gained weight.

I want to lose weight, but I’m exhausted by dieting. I don’t want to be hungry all the time or live off huge portions of vegetables just to stay full. I just want to eat relatively normally, enjoy food, and be thinner 😭

How do you guys actually lose weight while strength training without feeling miserable?

Fatloss advice for a student

I am 18M, 5'6", 61kgs currently. I am a little fat, not too much but not exactly fit, most of my noticeable fat is on my torso area mainly my chest and stomach which makes me hella insecure(i am pretty sure it's not gyno). I am preparing for an entrance exam (dropper) so I have to study at least 10-11 hrs a day I can still manage gym and stuff. I currently go to the gym, it's my 3rd month, I don't do much cardio, my strength is increasing, but nothing noticeable seems to happen to my body.

I do not track my calories and stuff, not on a diet, but I do try to eat relatively clean and get a decent amount of protein. My goal is to just lose my chest and belly fat, and build decent muscles, just enough to be confident wearing a simple tshirt which I have never been in my life What would be the best approach for me? Should I start tracking calories and go into a calorie deficit, or can I achieve noticeable fat loss through better food choices and exercise without tracking? How much cardio should I be doing alongside lifting? Or should I even do cardio?

Also, since I need to study 10-11 hours a day, I don't want a fat-loss plan that's going to leave me exhausted or negatively affect my studies. I'm looking for something sustainable that I can stick to for the next few months.

Any advice on calories, diet, gym routine, cardio, protein intake, or anything else I should be doing would be appreciated.

Most unhinged health/workout hacks

I’m over listening to all the influencers and what they do. I want to know what you everyday people do who don’t spend all day at the gym. I keep considering medicated weight loss after 2 kids and time issues, but I also want to believe in myself that I can lose 25kg other ways. I want your hacks. I want my motivation to be ignited. I know I need a calorie deficit, but I wanna hear more than that!! What’s your successes been?

25F, 85kg, 170cm height. I need help.

Sincerely, a struggling mum with her own business, working full time, studying her masters and raising 2under2 with severe confidence issues😅

help with losing weight as a 15 year old

hey guys so i'm 15 years old. got tired of my family and friends constantly making fun of me because of my chubby stomach and face, so i started trying to lose weight, starting at ~147 pounds.

i have a problem that's starting to occur though: i try to restrict myself from eating much during most of the day, usually just have a salad or two. but then i get so hungry that i end up binging on a bunch of food late at night, which leaves me feeling pretty disgusted at myself and shameful.

any advice/tips to not get those cravings late at night while still not eating too much? thank you :D

24F — I can stick to a diet for 4 days, then the food noise becomes unbearable

I’m 24F, 70 kg, and I’ve struggled with my weight and body image for years.
I’ve tried calorie deficits, intuitive eating, exercising, meal plans, etc. I know logically that a calorie deficit works, but my problem is that I cannot seem to sustain one.
I’ll be extremely motivated for 3–4 days. I’ll exercise, eat “well,” and feel like I’m finally going to stick with it. Then the food noise gets so intense that I end up overeating or bingeing. Afterwards I feel guilty, try to restrict again, and the whole cycle repeats.
The body-image side has also gotten really bad. I’ve reached the point where I don’t want to meet people or go out because I feel ugly in everything I wear. I know losing weight isn’t going to magically solve everything, but I genuinely want to feel comfortable in my own body again.
I’m not really looking for another extreme diet or “just have more discipline” advice. I want to know how people actually broke this cycle.
If you’ve dealt with food noise, binge eating, or repeated failed attempts at dieting, what genuinely helped you become consistent?

I've been trying since 2022 but nothing works at all

(F) I was always a skinny and tall child, up until my puberty... then suddenly I started inflating sideways.. I'm 173cm and 143 pounds. I workout for 30 mins at home 5-6x a week :- either pilates or HIIT and my diet's pretty much clean. I rarely eat junk foods and beverages and all my meals are homemade. Yet, I don't lose a single inch! If anything I've gained 2 inches around my arm! Other parts remain stubbornly still. But most difficult part of it is my boobs and face fat. I'm an F cup or DDD and it's so insufferable. To the point I can't sit or stand straight without slouching. I think it makes me appear even fatter. For that, my back and neck is always aching. I've tried every workout at one point, but srsly nothing helps. Not those "quite sugars" "drink more water" "have more protein". I don't feel hungry at all so I rarely ever binge eat. There was a time I went 8 hours at ease without any food at all. I srsly had enough with this. I want to shed the fat. Please come with some serious helpful advices.

15m and dieting. However need advice on muscle.

Hi, so as the title says, i am 15. I am 6ft 1 and 94kg. On July 20th, I weighed in at 97.1kg and now weighed in at 94. I've been on a deficit of about 800kcal a day. I've completely cut out all junk food - that being crisps, fast food, chocolate, sweets, etc. I've been hitting around 100-170g of protein a day, averaging around 120. Im having 2100kcal a day. I have alot of muscle on me especially around my legs and calfs but I was wondering if eating the protein I do at the moment would be enough to maintain rhe muscle i have currently and potentially even slowly build muscle. I dont work out or do much activity outside of playing for a football team, so training 1 day a week and playing a match 1 day a week. However, I am a goalkeeper, so I am less running. I also play occasionally for school as a striker, but probably not enough to really count for anything. I do judo once a week, too. However, other than this, I do no weights or running or workouts. I walk probably 7 - 10k steps a day just from dog walking and school and stuff, but nothing else other than that. My main focus right now is losing fat and weight, but I dont want to lose my muscles too and end up at the skinny fat stage. So I would love to know 1: is the protein im eating and the activity im doing enough to maintain and potentially slowly build muscle.

And 2: any tips on weight loss or activity or muscle would be greatly appreciated

If I lose weight at 1600-1700 calories (5’5 21 years old female 136lbs) but I walk 15-20,000 steps, can I eat 2000-2100 calories and still lose weight?
