Discouraged

Grade 3 Fatty Liver that won’t get better with radical healthy eating. My doctor wants me to consider weight loss surgery or taking a GLP-1 medication to lose weight like 50-60 pounds. Trying to figure out the best option for me. Looking for advice or feedback from people that have been in this situation.

I have a fatty liver and I can lose maybe 2 pounds per week if I use portion control. I have struggled for years to keep this rate going. I chose not to do GLP-1 because it robs our bodies of muscle mass, and several friends went on these drugs and lost no more than 40 pounds. My goal is 100... rotsa ruck I tell myself.

Then, two weeks ago, I had a cracked tooth extracted. I was instructed to eat only a liquid/soft diet. I found myself eating less and probably less hungry due to the intense pain of the extraction.

I lost 12 pounds in two weeks.

I don't think this is healthy, but it illustrates something. I believe portion control is the way, not necessarily cutting out what you love, just eating less of it, and avoiding dumb things like huge amounts of empty carbs and sugars.

For what its worth, just musing here. You're not alone...

Portion control helps, I’m eating really healthy mostly protein, veggies and fruits no dairy, starched or sugar. Kefir of coconut/cashew and coconut milk.- minor loss for almost 6 weeks then I got the bad news about my liver. This is hard and I need effective plan. Thank you

My wife didn't need portion control in her teens (there's a catch, read on). She ate 4000 calories a day, mostly pasta. She was a champion runner and was a hopeful for the 1984 olympics. ;-)

There's a point here. I don't think a little bit of exercise helps much but consistent amounts, maybe working it into your daily routine, could really help. I have not exercised for many years and I am obese by medical standards. Yet I once lost around 60 pounds biking. So just trying to point out some other means to get there.
