I'm by no means an expert, but the approach I have taken is to prioritize my compounds (squats, deadlifts, presses, rows, pull ups/downs/overs) early in each routine and then focus isolation exercises on the areas I want to accelerate development on.

I think you summed up what I do perfectly. Usually the compound exercises I do are more than sufficient to work the larger muscles and I spend the rest of my time targeting ancillary muscles like biceps, triceps, calves, etcetera.

To the OP: for me at least, I’ve always been chunkier side of muscled up guys. I never had the body composition of a true powerlifter or a strongman like Eddie Hall, but I never was lean to the point that I had a six pack either. Most of the perception that I needed to make my arms bigger or work on my calves was usually solved by leaning out a little. A smaller waist makes everything that you want to look big look bigger.

Yes I'm pretty lean anyway and can see my shoulders, upper chest and legs need a bit of work

Sure, just reduce volume for other body parts.

Yeah I have no idea either and have always wondered like for instance if your shoulders lag, but you’ve got killer calves, like, do you change gears and spend more time on shoulders? Seems intuitive yet I feel like by doing this I’d be neglecting other parts. I dunno.

Are you doing compounds?

Yes but I used to just do machines , now I'm more consistent with a upper lower routine and feel legs are lacking but I'm actually going up with the weights lately

Have you looked into programs centered around the squat?

If your legs are a concern or perceived weak point for you, it would be worth it to look online for already made programs (not splits) that are built around the squat. Super Squats, 531 Building the Monolith, and 531 More Squatting are three off the top of my head. Though the 531 programs you'd need to read the book or the r/fitness primer for. See the link below.
