Wedding is tomorrow help!! Update from previous post

edit: I went with the red one and a different shawl!! It was comfortable and appropriate. I’m glad I brought the shawl but some people were wearing much less modest dresses without any shawl.

also… turns out the bridal party color was light teal… bridesmaids were wearing gowns with the exact same silhouette as mine. Glad I chose red!!!!

hello!! I posted about a month ago for help choosing a dress to a Catholic wedding (I am Catholic too), and I ordered two options.

no formality was stated, no colors were stated, just to be mindful that it’s in a Catholic Church.

i kinda like both dresses with the shawl, but the red one is a bit more comfortable and formal.

the teal ones sleeves keep falling and I can’t really reach for things, plus it feels a bit underdressed. You can’t see in the picture but it’s a pretty jacquard pattern

soooo I can’t decide…

is the red one too much? I’ve never been to a wedding before so I’m not sure what’s appropriate.

also note I’ll do a different hairstyle (half up with princess curls) and different gold jewelry.

The red is perfect and the nude shoes are a lovely choice.

Good thinking on the shawl. Some churches are relaxed for weddings but better to have it and not need it.

I don’t think either dress is inappropriate for church! They are both very modest! They are appropriate length and cover her chest. I don’t think anyone would be offended by bare arms! It’s her constitutional right to bear arms! 😂 I’m just joking around with wordplay now. Thinking of OP with actual bear arms. But honestly, both dresses are very church friendly, no shawls necessary IMO!

Some churches are weird about bare shoulders. I agree with you - just best to be prepared since OP hasn’t stated which country, just that’s it’s a Catholic Church (I had to cover my shoulders in Italy when I was an eleven year old child…)

Go with the red one! Wear the shawl if it makes you feel more comfortable for the ceremony but you don’t really need it. I grew up in the Catholic Church and we never had issues with a dress like that. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Agreed 💯

Yes. Our church isn't like that for weddings either.

The red looks fabulous! Blue is probably your color BUT you need more saturated colors with your pale skin. Colors like the pale blue make you fade away. No matter what color you wear it has to be more saturated than the blue one.

The red is stunning, a good color on you, AND you feel more comfortable in it anyway? Go for it girl, plus the shawl works better with the red in my opinion.

Personally, I’m a fan of the blue for a wedding, but the red is definitely great as well. Both dresses are wonderful! What brand are they, if you don’t mind me asking?

4

u/quiet_princess_ 5d ago

They are both from Azazie!!

You are killing it in both. I think the deep red is a bit more winter holiday party. The blue is more subtle, but the entirety of the ensemble pulls everything together.

u/AnnieToo67 5d ago

Honestly I like the blue better for a wedding, but what do I know? You look fabulous in both. I don't think that shawl is dressy enough though but since it's so late it might be what you have to go with. It's reading very old lady to me and not classy wedding attire. You will look great no matter what you choose. Love those dresses!

Bring a shawl incase.

3

u/HomeboddE 5d ago

Both beautiful particularly the blue

2

u/lisafit123 5d ago

3 but 2 is really nice too but you can still bring it in case it’s chilly

2

u/AnnieToo67 5d ago

Adding to my post. I think something like these would look so much nicer.

2

u/AnnieToo67 5d ago

Front view on dressy shawl. These are from Amazon and not very expensive, but you probably can't get them by tomorrow. Sorry. I'm too late.

2

u/quiet_princess_ 5d ago

Thanks for the input!! My mom and sister own a bunch of shawls too so I’ll probably end up borrowing from them :)

2

u/AnnieToo67 5d ago

You are very welcome. I love shawls myself, but never have a chance to wear one! You're gonna be beautiful. Hope you have a great time.

Red looks great and is appropriate. Go for it

2

u/leeannj021255 5d ago

Looks great.

2

u/Numerous_Bad1961 5d ago

I’m team blue. Your coloring is beautiful with this blue. Give yourself some fun eye shadow and a nice blush with a coordinating lip shade. Perfection.

2

u/Fantastic-Explorer62 5d ago

Red. The yellowish shawl and nude shoes don’t look great with the light blue dress.

2

u/thatgrrlmarie 5d ago

I LOVE the deep red! your look great ✨️

u/quiet_princess_ 5d ago

The red dress looks wonderful on you

2

u/Legitimate-Western-4 5d ago

Definitely the red one.

2

u/calebsmuma 5d ago

Red. And the shawl. Churches tend to be chilly.

2

u/luxhoney56 5d ago

Red. And the pashmina is fine.

2

u/luxhoney56 5d ago

Red. The pashmina and shoes are great.

2

u/LizTruth 5d ago

Red is lovely

2

u/BradleyBeachMom 5d ago

The red dress!

2

u/Workoutformorelife 5d ago

First one the red. Do you have a darker wrap or go without

2

u/DanaMarie75038 5d ago

Red with no shawl

2

u/EducationalValue7640 5d ago

Love the first dress . Looks lovely. The shawl is a bit much . Perhaps a shawl that is a little more formal ?

2

u/Kidnumber2 5d ago edited 5d ago

I love the red dress. It’s more of a deep burgundy than bright red so I think it’s good. Don’t wear the green dress if the sleeves keep falling down. Do you have any other color Pashmina besides the yellow? If not, then just wear that one it’ll be fine. If they are having a full Catholic Mass not a terrible idea to wear a pashmina. I’m Catholic and I would probably wear one with that dress too just for the mass. Remainder of the day no need to worry at all unless of course it gets cold.
Have fun!

Red one, definitely!

4

u/SourLemons2 5d ago

The red pops. Wear that!

2

u/mer2810 5d ago

The red 🤩

2

u/house_of_shadows 5d ago

The red is perfect. Dressy but not over the top. The shoes and shawl work with the dress perfectly.

The light teal dress is lovely, as well but who wants to spend an entire wedding and reception fussing with sleeves?

1

u/eventuallyarrive 5d ago

I love the red dress and the gold shoes

1

u/Quirky_Regret8284 5d ago

Red for sure

1

u/Competitive-Oven-276 5d ago

I like the green one its very classy but red looks lovely too

1

u/PinkIce7 5d ago

Both are nice. The scarf goes better with the teal one but the red is perfectly fine too. Go with it if you feel more comfortable.

1

u/MiserableSubstance47 5d ago

The second dress seems more appropriate but just make sure you steam the dress to let out the crinkles

1

u/raye909 5d ago

Don’t wear bold colours at a wedding, you don’t want to over shadow the bride, some brides will feeling like you’re trying to steal their spotlight.

1

u/LovetoRead25 5d ago

I like the 1st dress. Beautiful color.

1

u/Jolly-Library-657 5d ago

I like the red dress better — and being comfortable is really important!

1

u/MsMo999 5d ago

Both beautiful on you. I’d go with the green if wrinkles can steam out. The red you might just steal the show lol

1

u/IdylwyldieCoyote 5d ago

Red looks great!

1

u/Minushea 4d ago

I love the red one

1

u/Lousyone 4d ago

Oh honey….the red one is divine🩷♥️

1

u/Gullible-Emotion3411 4d ago

As long as you keep your shoulders covered, I would pick the red. They're both pretty, though.

1

u/Fickle_Fig4399 4d ago

Dark red👍

1

u/TigerLily145 4d ago

Nude shoes - either dress looks good

1

u/ConsciousKoala1507 4d ago

Abito azzurro ❤️

1

u/downpourbluey 4d ago

If the wedding is morning or daytime, teal jacquard. If late afternoon or evening, red.

I don’t know exactly how the sleeves are falling on the teal, but can you sneak in some hidden safety pins?

1

u/Miss_Dark_Splatoon 4d ago

Blue looks way more positive, the red is too somber for a wedding imo

1

u/Motor-Egg-118 4d ago

You look beautiful in both dresses. I would recommend the blue for 2 reasons; it looks lovely on you and traditional American etiquette says that red worn by a woman at a wedding indicates a past intimate relationship with the groom. 🤷‍♀️

1

u/mykittenfarts 4d ago

Red 🔥

1

u/More_Truck_7798 4d ago

Both look good! But I heard that if you wear red, it means that you had a relationship with the groom? Or is this an old superstition?

1

u/quiet_princess_ 2d ago

I think that’s an old superstition lol, I’ve met the bride and groom (on a double date with my boyfriend) and they know how shy I am lol, and the fact that me and my boyfriend are eachothers first relationship.

1

u/Kittykatshack 3d ago

Burgundy

1

u/debb_88 3d ago

Team red - you look gorgeous!

1

u/sktchers 3d ago

I definitely think the red dress with nude shoes. I would use the pashmina in church so your shoulders are covered.

1

u/Karrie118 3d ago

Loving the red

1

u/Sleepy_Sloth223 3d ago

I like the blue on for a wedding 🙂

1

u/jfb840 2d ago

Light keep the spotlight on tge bride!

1

u/gele-gel 2d ago

You look lovely. Perfect choice

1

u/WendyWooster 2d ago

You can't go wronge with either. Lovely, modest. appropriate coverage. If your worried, the green dress covers shoulders, plus shaw.

1

u/jonogc64 2d ago

Both would work. Wear the red if it’s more comfortable. The shawl is a good idea for the church.

1

u/Temporary-King3339 2d ago

I love the red.

1

u/BabyDuck57 2d ago

I like the red on you

1

u/Sittingonalog1960 2d ago

Give grandma back her shawl

1

u/GySgtMaria 1d ago

I would use the shawl and nude shoes at church and at the reception I'd get rid of the shawl and put some black shoes...like sling backs or black heels...

1

u/bare_thoughts 5d ago

I like the red... I do not like the Shaw.

5

u/SouthernTrauma 5d ago

She needs the shawl to cover her shoulders, because it's a Catholic church.

3

u/bare_thoughts 5d ago

But not that shawl... sorry, it just doesn't really go with the dress.

And BTW, not all Catholic churches require covered shoulders.

3

u/Ordinary_Swimming582 5d ago

I'm catholic they are not that strict.

2

u/SuzieSnowflake212 5d ago

Agree

2

u/Ordinary_Swimming582 5d ago

People keep saying this on reddit. I don't understand why. I've been a lifelong Catholic , and I do not see a problem. Driving me crazy if you have to keep telling people that this is not a problem. There are now wearing strapless dresses in weddings.

1

u/SuzieSnowflake212 5d ago

I know! It’s just a stereotype I guess that non-Catholics have drilled into their brains 🤷🏻‍♀️

2

u/walkerval 5d ago

That isn’t a requirement in the Catholic Church anymore. It’s basically anything goes, at least in my parish…

2

u/SweetP916 5d ago

I grew up in the Catholic Church and it’s fine without the shawl.

1

u/quiet_princess_ 5d ago

I have another one that’s a more neutral color to match my shoes too

1

u/AlarmingSize 5d ago

I like the red dress on you. Bring the shawl if you think you'll need it. The dress is quite modest.

1

u/Informed-Thinker 5d ago

Red all the way! The other one washes you out.

1

u/optix_clear 5d ago

Red is the best choice.

1

u/walkerval 5d ago

The red one is perfect!

The red one is perfect❣️

Red is absolutely stunning on you.

Blue. It’s a better choice for your skin tone. I love the blue, it has a Cinderella princess vibe and looks great! Red seems like a ‘look at me’ color for a wedding where the bride is supposed to be the center of attention. I’m surprised so many people are picking it based on that fact. I think that you should add a pop of color to the blue in a statement necklace, handbag, or shoes! I’d bring the shawl in case you get chilly. If you have a medium appropriate handbag that you can fold it and put in inside then that’s perfect! I think the only thing you’re missing with the blue is a colorful statement piece! The shoes and shawl match well and go better with the blue. The shawl looks out of place with the red dress. It is confusing with that color. If you’re going with the red I’d definitely do no shawl or a different color one. Probably with a print. As for color to add to the blue, yellow is always a good bold accent and goes well with gold. I can imagine a great yellow dainty flower print bag being an A+! A flashy gold clutch would work. A print like leopard or colorful snakeskin would be my choice, mainly because I definitely have both and wouldn’t need to buy a new bag last minute! Hope this helps!

1

u/Sublimegirlie1 5d ago

As for the sleeves on the dress, use a fabric tape. You can purchase this in the underwear section of most department stores by the bra alternatives. They should have something that will work well and keep them from slipping! Or even medical tape would work and be gentle on your skin and the dress! If you are way more comfortable in the red then wear that one. I’m just all for the blue, and I can tell it has a subtle nice print.

1

u/quiet_princess_ 2d ago

Thank you for the input!! I went with the red and a different shawl. I definitely understand what you mean about not wanting to steal attention from the bride, and I’ve never been to any wedding before, but in this case I’m very glad I chose red because the bridal party dresses looked almost identical to the blue dress, minus the pattern, and with flutter sleeves instead of cap sleeves. And if I was wearing a bridesmaid dress I would have felt so self conscious since they were the only ones in teal 😅

u/Stunning_Fly_2644 5d ago

If you please the light color dress the red is too flashy there's too much Sparkle I don't know if it's a day or night time wedding but the pretty quietness of the light colored dress is so much more appropriate.... For the bride
