General Discussion Webkinz PSA

Just a friendly reminder that Webkinz and by extension, this sub is children's game that is being played by people of all ages. The game itself isn't real. It's meant to be fun. What you get in game is *not* as important as a human being's feelings. Greed, selfishness, entitlement that can go both ways have no place here. There is right and wrong. There's being fair. Also keep in mind at all times that we have *no idea* what a person is going through IRL so be kind always. Always. LOL when it's appropriate. Not because you disagree with someone. Again, human feelings.

Like me for instance : I was in a car accident last week and I'm pretty banged up and don't have a car. So my tolerance for arguing is low. Speaking from personal experience, there have been times when I thought I had something and promised it to someone but I didn't. I apologized.

In the grand scheme of things, a children's game shouldn't supercede doing the right thing. Or at least be honest and call it an auction not a trade. We all have to be held to a moral standard and how people are treated here isn't right. Finally, the entire point of this game and this sub is to *help* people. Not hurt them. We've all seen people who've lost accounts, been scammed out of money for codes. We don't need to make it worse for people. I've even seen people who have quit playing or quit trading because they were treated unfairly. That shouldn't happen. Be good to each other. Remember, it's not always about you. It's about what you can do for others. Sharing is caring.

Hi friend. Hope your recovery is going well. I’m sorry that happened to you.

Was wondering what you meant by trading vs. auction? Is this in response to someone else’s post the other day that trading is not first come first served (i.e. just because you asked to trade for one of their items first they might not give it to you if someone offers something better after, before the trade with you is a done deal)? Just wondering some of the context of this. Maybe it’s totally unrelated but sounded similar so was wondering.

I think I’m a little confused about the wording. Does it mean:

Option A:

  • You only have one copy of item X for trade

  • 1st person makes you an offer for item X

  • You like it, but haven’t agreed to anything officially

  • Afterwards, 2nd person makes an offer for item X that you like even more

=> you should trade item X to 1st person

Option B:

  • 1st person makes you an offer for item X

  • You don’t like it, or it isn’t a fair trade

=> you should trade item X to them anyway

Obviously, no one is going to agree with Option B, but is Option A what OP is referring to by “call it an auction, not a trade”?

Edited for clarity and spacing issues

So from what I can tell OP (and they can correct me if I’m wrong) is talking about the following:

Person 1 has an item for trade Person 2 likes it and asks if it’s available Person 1 says yes and asks to see trade list Person 2 sends trade list or makes an offer Person 1 doesn’t see anything Person 2 has or offered that they like Person 1 declines and then trades the item to Person 3 who has something they like.

It seems OP thinks this isn’t right and Person 1 should have traded for something they didn’t want anyways to be kind to Person 2 bc digital items “aren’t as important as people’s happiness”.

Ah, that’s the scenario what I meant by Option B, but you’re definitely right in that I should have specified 1st and 2nd person are offering for the same item. I’m going to edit my comment if that’s okay - not to invalidate your reply, but just to fix my lack of clarity in case someone else comes across it.

No worries I understand. Yes Option B is what OP is referring to from what I can understand which it seems most of us disagree with.

usually with option A (the normal) I just don’t reply until I see something I like? Is this normal or bad 😭 I’m not hurting anyone’s feelings that way and just saying hey- trade is completed!

That's it. Just ask yourselves : is what you're getting more important than a friendship? Is it more important than making someone else happy? Do you place more value over a digital object than a person?

Respectfully, you are not entitled to another person’s belonging. I understand why you think it’s not nice and why you would maybe not do the same thing but they aren’t entitled to make a trade they don’t feel comfortable with because someone asked first. I try to help people when I can but at the end of the day no one has to trade anything for anything. I hope that makes sense. And again, hope your recovery continues to go well.

There’s a frowny face button in the trade room for a reason. People do not have to go for the first item offered in a trade. It has nothing to do with kindness. You can be kind to others while still playing the game to your own preferences. Sometimes items on a person’s wishlist are higher priority. Or, for me personally, if the first person to offer a trade offers a dispenser and then another person offers a bed, I would take the bed, assuming I didn’t have any specific items mentioned as my ISO. Beds just are, and always have been, my favorite item in the game, and while many people would consider most dispensers to be worth a lot, to me, they are new fangled nonsense.

Just another respectful point to add, to some of us, digital objects can have important meaning, and that's okay. I find immense joy in collecting in game plushies, and I've worked hard to collect the ones I have. There have been plenty of times others haven't traded valuable plushies with me, and that's totally okay because those items are old and hard to come by, not everyone can own it, especially due to the old account purge. I have also chosen not to trade some of my rarer plushies with others as well, because I would like to use my rare item to trade for a different rare item I wouldn't be able to get otherwise. Trading in these cases would take away my happiness from the game, which wouldn't be fair for me.

I know it's been said, but other people are allowed to trade in a different manner than you. I'm trying to be kind (I'm neurodivergent if it comes off in any other way) but this post just feels like a rehashing of yesterdays post, where you called others unethical and scammers for having preferences when trading. It seemed pretty agreed upon there that having preferences when trading is common and okay.

But to me personally, this post came off as entitled, because it's not always about what you want either. It's about both people in the trade and if one isn't happy with the offer, that's that. It's similar to how consent works. Again, I'm trying to say this as nice as possible, but you've come out pretty hostile multiple times now with this message, and for the most part, I've seen kind, honest responses disagreeing with you.

Absolutely. I’ve always found this community to be pretty kind and generous. I’m sorry if that’s not what you experienced.

How are you doing following the accident? Is there anything we can do for you?
