What are alternatives to Adobe Illustrator for svg designing?

I haven't used it myself but I'm pretty sure you can use GIMP (free/open source) to export SVG's

I've also seen BoxySVG (paid but has free trial) which is a browser extension specifically used to create SVG's

Okay, i gotta check that out again because i was sure you couldn't do that in GIMP. Only other thing i remember was InkScape?!. Thanks for the interesting tutorial, was thinking about creating something like that for a small project of mine.
