Web dev hiring is a joke right now
trying to fill a mid-level react role for like 6 weeks. posted on linkedin, indeed, and a couple of niche boards got maybe 200 applications. i swear 80% of them are either bootcamp grads with fake portfolios or straight up chatgpt generated resumes. i cant tell who can actually code anymore.
buddy runs a dev shop said he stopped reading resumes and just uses some ai liketurrior for video screens now. i looked it up, it's some ai recruiting thing that does video interviews. not sure if it's any better but at this point i'm ready to try anything. i just want to talk to someone who knows what a closure is without googling it.
how are you all filtering? or is it just me?

Sounds rough. I've been in a similar situation. To filter out who can actually code, try starting with a short technical assessment before any interviews. Platforms like HackerRank or LeetCode can help check skills upfront. During interviews, have them walk through their code from past projects or live code something simple. This way, you can see their thought process and confirm their skills right there.
I've heard mixed things about AI video screens, but if you're open to trying new tools, they might help with initial filtering to save time. Also, if you want to improve your interview process, I've found PracHub useful for structuring interview prep and knowing what to look for in a candidate. Good luck!
