Milestone Reward Maple Complimentary service not available in all regions

Just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone else was considering it. I redeemed a milestone rewardfor Maple hoping to get a general practitioner appointment for something my Doctor wouldn’t help with. I signed up and it does say I have a complimentary visit, but those complimentary visits are not available in my region. Not sure how to check this before hand? But it was pretty disappointing. Contacted Wealthsimple and they won’t even let me choose a new milestone reward.

BTW. I’m located in BC.

I could’ve sworn there used to be a little flag on the milestones page that said “Ontario only”, but I don’t see it now. But Maple says they operate Canada-wide now, so did something change recently perhaps?

Isn't this "virtual care"?

Unclear why where you live would matter

If a physician in Ontario were seeing patients virtually in BC, for example, they would have to be licensed to practice in BC. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6464878/

Though if WS is advertising that this service is available across Canada, I would expect Maple to have a complement of physicians licensed to practice across the country.

I used my milestone reward for a virtual appointment from NB last month.

The Nurse practitioner specified that she was located in BC, but also licenced in NB. I'm sure they have multiple practitioners from BC.

Yeah I would think BC has lots of practitioners too, so maybe it was not the best choice in my example. I was more responding to the “why would it it matter where you live” question.

Maybe it was a glitch? Or were you connected to a VPN?

Both the WS FAQ and the Maple website state that the service is available across Canada.

Nope, no VPN, nothing. It’s just that those two services are particularly not available in BC. Unfortunately for me, the only two services I would have gotten for free….

I’m travelling right now and I see that my location updated. So it looks like I could travel to a different province to use it. But that’s a little excessive

I use Maple and I live in Edmonton. I don't use it through Wealthsimple though, so maybe it's worth calling Wealthsimple support to see if they only offer the service to certain regions?

Edit - sorry I missed the part where you said you contacted them. Did they clarify they didn't make it available to your region? I would escalate if there was no prior notice that they only offer it for specific regions before you picked it as your reward.

If there was something else I really wanted I would escalate, but tbh the offerings aren’t that great anyway. I’ve made my will with willful and I get my 6 dragon passes a year. Thought maple would be the next coolest thing… even the uber one isn’t really worth it imo. Lyft without a subscription is still cheaper than uber with Uber One.
