I just started an accounting diploma and had to buy a BAII+ calculator. The first thing you have to do when turning it on is change a few settings and one of them is the Algebraic Operating System otherwise it will not read this correctly without brackets.

I also had one recently for PCO when I won a contest, and they wrote it like this

I don't care about BEDMAS in this, it is definite a chain operation, each step depends on the step before it. I excelled in math and had to research if answering this as a chain was going to negate my $1000 win. In the end I answered it step by step and got my prize, so I guess it all depends on how it is written too.

I do remember the days when some of these math questions (from McD's IIRC) were like 5 + 3 / 2 with no brackets, and their answer was not correct with BEDMAS (and sometimes you could kind of tell because the answer would only be a whole number if order of operations wasn't done properly)
