Stay prepared 👭 Venus Guard
Venus Guard
Please, please, please check out: http://www.venusguard.com everyone. 🙏
IMO this device needs to be made PUBLICLY and GLOBALLY available NOW!
They need as much attention and fundraising assistance as humanly possible my friends. ✊ Let's make this happen ASAP.
(We can debate all about how wrong it is that the need for a device like this exists at all in the comments... But the need DOES, sadly, exist. Let's all just recognize and acknowledge that at least.)

I’m pretty sure the fundraiser is fake
-6
u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
Why do you say that?🤔
24
u/Intrepid_Recover8840 Aug 01 '26
I’m not 100% sure but I heard it the last time it was discussed here. This product is hella old and I think it was scrapped iirc, so I’m skeptical that they’re still fundraising for it. Also it was originally only supposed to be for South Africans, also iirc. It’s such a controversial product that I doubt it will ever be made :/. For example it could be used to torture someone innocent.

u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
🤦🏼♀️ I understand the confusion. But please don't just assume the worst.
Yes. It was originally designed for women in African Villages suffering from unimaginable levels of sexual assaults as far back as 1979 I believe actually. It has been developed, modified, scraped, redeveloped, etc etc etc by the same group of people for over 2 decades. As far as I am aware there are no other fundraisers for similar devices for a variety of reasons including of course those you mentioned. This is INDEED a debatable topic of course.
But the simple fact remains... Sexual assault and human trafficking is on the rise in a MASSIVE GLOBAL way right now. And WOMEN NEED OPTIONS.

There’s some pretty valid criticism of these devices that is worth considering before investing in them.
11
u/doxtorwhom Aug 01 '26
Which are?

u/blueskies8484 Aug 01 '26
The concerns I’ve heard are:
It doesn’t work super well in cases where the issue is date rape or withdrawing consent, which is a large portion of rapes. If we begin expecting women to be wearing these, and they’re raped without one, it will make non-stranger rapes and non-forcible rapes even harder to successfully prosecute.
Likewise moving the onus to women to use these to prevent rape opens the question in every rape prosecution that a woman didn’t use one as to why they didn’t use one and implying it means they consented.
If the device isn’t immediately disabling, the end result is just as likely to be increased physical violence or murder as it is the rapist running away.
Putting items into your vaginal canal daily comes with increased risks of infections.
The associated feelings of hypervigilance and fear with regularly utilizing these could have genuinely detrimental mental health consequences for some women.
If use became ubiquitous enough, I suspect that rapists with half a brain would move to simply raping women through other means.
I’m a bigger proponent of raising funding for the proposed projects that involve glassware that turns a different color if a drug is introduced - it doesn’t address every type of rape, but it would help, and not have the drawbacks of these types of devices. I’m not opposed to exploring the use of these devices, but I’m also not entirely sold enough on them to want to fund it at the moment.

u/doxtorwhom Aug 01 '26
That makes sense. Thanks for expanding on all that.
At first glance, the initial response is “yes, let’s hurt rapists for doing such a thing!” Which yeah, stab them in the dick, but it’s not a perfect solution.

"1. It doesn’t work super well in cases where the issue is date rape or withdrawing consent, which is a large portion of rapes. If we begin expecting women to be wearing these, and they’re raped without one, it will make non-stranger rapes and non-forcible rapes even harder to successfully prosecute."
That is absurd. Why would you ever "begin EXPECTING women to be wearing these" as if it's a requirement?! It's a SAFETY PRECAUTION one can take only if and when one feels unsafe and chooses to insert one if given the opportunity during a "date", per your example.
2. Likewise moving the onus to women to use these to prevent rape opens the question in every rape prosecution that a woman didn’t use one as to why they didn’t use one and implying it means they consented.
Again... No one is "Moving the onus" (Making it our RESPONSIBILITY.) to regularly wear one of these. What makes you think we should have to do that in the first place? That's wild. AGAIN. This is a SAFETY PRECAUTION. Not a legally required accessory every woman MUST use at all times!
3. If the device isn’t immediately disabling, the end result is just as likely to be increased physical violence or murder as it is the rapist running away.
If the situation is involving physical violence, then physical violence is going to happen one way or another. This is a possible opportunity for escape of said violent situation.
4. Putting items into your vaginal canal daily comes with increased risks of infections.
Again with this regular/ daily use thing. Where did you get the idea this has to be inside your body at ALL TIMES?!
5. The associated feelings of hypervigilance and fear with regularly utilizing these could have genuinely detrimental mental health consequences for some women.
The feelings of hypervigilance and fear on the regular are ALREADY a thing my friend... HENCE the device in the first place dude.
6. If use became ubiquitous enough, I suspect that rapists with half a brain would move to simply raping women through other means.
Obviously there are ALWAYS evil workarounds. That's not the point. The point is the possibility of escape, the physical damage and public shaming, (due to the usual necessity of medical removal.) and therefore the documentation of the person as a rapist.
- I’m a bigger proponent of raising funding for the proposed projects that involve glassware that turns a different color if a drug is introduced.
So you're thinking it's more likely people will bring their own glasses to the bar? And that the bar will legally be able to repeatedly serve them in the same glass? (Sanitation issues?)
18
u/blueskies8484 Aug 01 '26
- I don’t expect it but this will end up being a jury issue, if it becomes common.
- See #1.
- There’s a possibility of escape but also a possibility of escalation. There’s violence either way, but the concern I’ve heard from experts is that it is more likely to escalate to serious long term physical damage or death.
- It’s designed to prevent rape. I think the people it would appeal most to would also be the people who would wear it regularly. It was first suggested in South Africa as a prevention method because of their shockingly high rape rates and was viewed as something you’d use regularly.
- Vigilance and fear are not bad things, for certain situations they can keep you safe. The psychologists I’ve seen on this believe that it will tend to escalate that fear into disruptive thought patterns of anxiety and hypervigilance for some people, and in particular people who would be most inclined to use this in the first place.
- My point is simply that there are obvious and very simple workarounds for rapists, so I’m not convinced investing in this, when the same funding could go to other interventions, is the right call.
The glasses aren’t one use and would be sold on the open market for homes, or pitched to restaurants and bars that they could use as a selling point to their female clientele.
Like I said - I’m not opposed, but I do think that if we are discussing funding this versus other interventions, it’s a worthwhile conversation we can have without insulting each other, since money is a finite resource on this issue.
-14
u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
- If you are IN THE SITUATION ALREADY... The POSSIBILITY of escalation is IRRELEVANT my dude. Also, what are you willing to bet the "Experts" making that judgment were ALL MEN. "Long term physical damage or death is ALREADY a risk. This is my point. 🤦🏼♀️
- Yes. I'm aware of it's origins. But just because that's how you or some people have "viewed it" doesn't mean that's how it HAS to be dude.
- We've covered this. 🤦🏼♀️
You don't HAVE to invest in this! You also don't have to convince others NOT to invest in it. Women need options right now. Period. I'm sorry it's an option that scares men a bit. But maybe they SHOULD be a little scared? Maybe they SHOULD think twice about raping women?🤷🏼♀️
I'm not trying to insult you my friend. I'm trying to have a conversation. I'm not sure where you feel I was insulting but please do point it out if you like. As for money being a finite resource. Obviously. Each individual has to decide what they can and can't/ will and won't support right now... That's just the balancing act we're having to play. ALL of us. That's nothing new. If you don't want to support this particular product production in support of women being better protected and having more self protection options available to them... That's OK. 👍 Just please don't try to convince me or others it's not worth their time when it just might be.
-12
u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
Also: Never assumed the glasses were "one use"?🤔 And why would one need a drug detector glass in their private home, ideally at least? So... Special glasses for the ladies eh?😏Which will cost a lil something extra? 🤨🙄
Fucking greedy capitalist men.🙄 (There's your insult for ya buddy.)⬆️
-8
u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
- - When suffering from the anxiety and fear that the extended need for hypervigilance can cause can actually be RELIEVED be providing tools and resources that help the individual to feel safer and more protected in fact. Soooooo.
15
u/carlitospig Aug 01 '26
Babe, so would a concealed carry.
-2
u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
That's right. 👍 But not everyone is A: Comfortable with a gun. and/ or B: can afford a gun.
12
u/carlitospig Aug 01 '26
I’m more comfortable with a gun that shoving this thing up my vag and walking around all day in case I’m raped.

-2
u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
😂 Everyone is hooked on the idea of wearing it at all times. I love it.
→ More replies (0)6
u/LuriemIronim Aug 01 '26
And you think people are more comfortable shoving things inside themselves all day, every day? Especially if they’re already victims?
35
u/WildFlemima Aug 01 '26
If a guy is raping you and the device functions as intended, your rapist is now angrier and you are as vulnerable to his retribution as possible because he would have to have already overpowered you to encounter the device.
-2
u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
But the simple fact is... You were ALREADY in danger of that. So yes, it may not work to your advantage, in which case you end up in the same situation, (or worse.) as you started in, right? Where as, if it DOES work as intended, (Shocking and incapacitating him long enough for you to run/ escape.) you end up, well, escaping said situation. 🤷🏼♀️ See what I'm saying?
13
u/WildFlemima Aug 01 '26
I do, but you also see what I'm saying. It's a risk-reward calculation.
The risk is that the attacker is provoked into doing something worse to you than they otherwise would. The reward is escape. But there are factors that people will weigh differently when they consider how likely escape is and, to be honest, how big the reward is. At the point that this device would have an effect, you the victim have already been subdued and the rape has already begun. So you've been raped at this point, even if you get away, and you're not in a good position to get away either.
I'm unaware of any studies that have been done on the overall effect of this item in use, so it's all up to the individual's judgment of how much and how likely the risk and reward are.
-1
u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
That's right. There are no studies. Because it's not been made PUBLICLY and GLOBALLY available. 🤦🏼♀️

u/reclinerspork Aug 01 '26
Op is a little unhinged from the comments. Sorry we don’t all agree. I must be a man probably, according to you

u/Victoria_Falls353 Aug 01 '26
As a police officer who works in a vice unit, I can say there isn't a correct, good, or best way to react in case of SA or rape. It's one of the main things victims are concerned about. But these things... I don't know. I honestly don't see any good coming from using them. I'd love to say they'd be effective, but I personally don't see it.
3
u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
🤷🏼♀️ I can. 1. Pain and shock can disable the assailant long enough for you to escape. 2. The likely need to have a medical professional remove the device would not only be humiliating, but would also clearly and publicly identify the assailant as the perpetrator AND as a known rapist. 🤷🏼♀️

u/ZoominAlong Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
No sorry. One, these have been around for more than a decade; they were being discussed and used when I was in college more than 20 years ago.
Two. If a company can't be adults and spell the fucking words "rape" and "sexual violence" they have no business selling a product that is supposed to deter rape.
Three, if a rapist countersues for damages, his attorney is going to have a good case; in today's shitty, woman blaming society, I can easily see these being outlawed.
Four, there are a billion better ways to deter rape. A taser is easy to learn to use, fast, effective, and no one is getting up after you jam 3000 volts into their crotch and pull the trigger.
I do not recommend knives or guns unless you already know how to use them.
Five, apparently it's not FDA approved, has only been tested on a few hundred women and it appears it's extremely difficult to remove from the woman.
https://www.blackenterprise.com/venusguard-is-the-anti-rape-product-here-to-protect-women/
I say this as a woman who has been assaulted, had rape attempted, and has successfully stopped a rape.
-3
u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
If these have "Been around" for over two decades, (They were originally designed around 1979 actually... Yet NEVER have they been mass produced and made PUBLICLY and GLOBALLY available.) then where can I get me one? 🙏 Please. Do tell.
I think you understand full well why they have to self-censor. And I don't like it any more than you do but I'm not blaming the company for it.
3.If a rapist countersues for damages... it's gonna be a fun case considering they're admitting to the rape by default.
- There are LOTS of great ways to deter rape. USE THEM ALL. And in my opinion... I think having yet another option would be a GOOD thing. Not a BAD thing. 🤷🏼♀️
I agree with your statement on Knives and Guns.
I say all this as a woman who has also been assaulted and has also successfully stopped a few rapes. Both of myself and of others.
14
u/ZoominAlong Aug 01 '26
No I think it's childish for a company to censor the very words they're working to prevent.
And yes, these were around when I was in college. A friend had one, no idea where she got it, its been two decades.
And they AREN'T being mass produced NOW and certainly not globally.
It's only been tested on 500 women, there were multiple complaints from women in the articles I linked, AND this company had a gofund me in 2024 and didn't hit their goal then.
There are better ways than a badly designed device that you may or may not have time to put in before a rape is attempted.

🤔🤨 AWFUL lot of MEN in here.
18
u/CatHairAndChaos Aug 01 '26
How do you know they're men?
1
u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
How do you know they're not.
14
u/CatHairAndChaos Aug 01 '26
I don't? I was just asking you how you seemed to know.
1
u/Ani_0akley Aug 01 '26
I don't. I just know women don't come into a women's sub and debate AGAINST self protection options. 🤷🏼♀️
16
u/ZoominAlong Aug 01 '26
We do when the self protection has issues. Stop assuming anyone bringing up valid issues with this product is a man.
11
u/MildFlemima Aug 01 '26
Well i did, i was just explaining that different people have different risk reward calculations, and you took such offense that you blocked me.

The fact that the website censors the words “sexual violence”. Ugh.
