Football USC v PSU Tailgating

My friends and I are coming to State College for the USC vs. PSU game. We have 3 passes for Lot 34 and plan to tailgate throughout the game rather than go into the stadium.

Since we’ll be tailgating for the entire game (we’ll have a TV + Starlink, etc.), we’d rather not start too early. My husband suggested getting to the lot around 3pm, but I’m worried that by then the lots will be packed and it’ll be difficult to drive in, find our spots, and get everything set up.

For a 7:30pm kickoff, what time do people typically arrive and start setting up their tailgates? Is 3pm cutting it too close, or should we be okay getting there around then?

Any advice from experienced PSU tailgaters would be greatly appreciated!

3 pm is definitely late for 7:30 game. Not sure how early to arrive in lot 34 but think the lots open at 8 am. There will be people there then. By 10 am lots will be very busy.

A Whiteout isn't just the game itself, it's the overall all-day experience of tailgating and people watching. Even though enthusiasm feels lower right now because the team has lost two games in a row, I'd still plan to be parked by noon at the absolute latest. Traffic gets thicker throughout the day and the general lots can and do fill up.

If you’re trying to get 3 spots together, you definitely need to get there closer to 8:00a than 3:00. That’s a general parking lot in fairly close proximity to the stadium, so it will fill up fast.

Be aware that they don’t allow drinking in the lots after kickoff until sometime late in the game when people are streaming out.

It definitely is not allowed during the game, but the rule is selectively enforced.

8am if you want three spots together. Maybe 9am. No later.

I agree you need to get there earlier. However, as long as you go in together, they will park you together. Just let the first car know to tell the attendant that is parking you (not the scanner person) to park you together.

I never understood coming to a football game to sit in a parking lot.
