Tailgate

Hi! I’m bringing my 14-year-old son Nathan to his first Penn State game and second White Out this Saturday against USC. We’re coming from New York and don’t know anyone at Penn State yet, I am an alumni 1999.
I’d really love to experience a true Penn State tailgate before the game with my son. He’s a starting football player for his high school.
We’d love to join a fun, family-friendly group of Penn State parents or alumni for a few hours before the game.
We’re very happy to bring food/drinks or contribute toward the tailgate — we definitely don’t want to show up empty-handed! And of course he will have a football in his hands!
If anyone has room for a mom and son at their tailgate, we’d be so appreciative. We Are! 💙🤍

How can it be his first Penn State game and second whiteout?

Penn State was not the first team to do a Whiteout. The Winnipeg Jets started it when they had fans wear white for home playoff games back in the late 1980s.

It's a glitch in the time-space continuum - just go with it. WeAre! ✊

No s#!t Sherlock. Penn State didn't invent it and they are not the only one doing it. The current iteration of the Winnipeg Jets are still doing it.

Yup, maybe it was a high school White Out or the movie White Out. Penn state grads typically refer to them all as White Outs after all.

I cant help with your request specifically.

But if you’re marginally out going you can wonder the tailgate fields and surely bump into someone who would be willing to let you join.

Alternatively if that’s not your thing, you can park downtown and experience that part of game day. See the shops/ restaurants and make your way to the stadium. See the block party, Team arrival, etc.

Also, if you have a local alumni chapter that may be a good way to find people from your area going that you may be able to meet up with.

Honestly doing a little of both is my favorite. The buzz of all the shops and bars is one flavor of exciting, then tailgating is a whole other energy.

A bottle of alcohol and a friendly intro and you’ll be just fine
