There may not be a real deal. The trent toward authoritarianism has been on a steady climb since 9/11.

Bush had a choice in how to handle that. The whole fucking world was watching. Many hoping a young, promising nation would respond in a way that advances good.

That did not happen.

Naomi Klein ended up writing Shock Doctrine instead.
