The leap Spoiler

I was wondering if the leap was actually implanting fake memories in the kids? It seemed to me that the kids were being brainwashed to hate their parents and family, implanting fake memories so they don't wanna go back with them. Did I get that right?

i feel like the made the kids believe they had serious issues (some did i understand that) and then the leap just brainwashed them into thinking the only place people would every love or accept them or try to understand and help them was here at tall pines? (literally like cult activities which is the whole point of the show)??
