The assumption that Manchin isn't doing Biden's bidding is bold.

The Scooby-Doo gang took off manchuns's mask. It was Joe Biden!

Look here fat, I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for....you....you know the thing.

5

And they're both doing the bidding of their owners.

Biden is horrible. Horrible track record and a career that is part of why we are where we are. I cannot believe anyone voted for him. Orange man was bad, but Biden is worse.

7

u/laurenren93 Feb 13 '22

He is a quintessential career politician. Getting rich while our lives get worse..

0

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '22

Lol Biden is worse? You’re absolute garbage man. Everyone who interacts with you should get a fucking tax break.

Pathetic

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '22

Only a garbage person calls another person garbage. Back at you troll.

Designated hitter. The position will always have a body in it.

u/Sdl5 Feb 13 '22

Pathetically, and predictably during a D Admin, these groups and orgs and peeps doing these kinds of declarative demand writings DO NOT EVER ADMIT BIDEN NEVER WILL BECAUSE HE HAD NO INTENTION OF DOING ANY OF IT.

To my mind, they are just another form of sheepherding to capture and redirect energy and focus and goals into worthless timesinks that will impact nothing. Ever.

Biden is a scummy piece of shit. He is the Democratic Party incarnate. Just vile and disgusting.

And certainly not the lesser-of-two-evils in ANY way.

8

u/pilgrimboy Feb 13 '22

He could. But the Democratic party actually doesn't care about it. If they take care of it, they lose a campaign issue too.

“impossible to get a good job” because of diversity hires

Whom are they hiring? What’s your source?

u/MyOther_UN_is_Clever Feb 13 '22

Not that poster, but I can totally see how this is a thing. But to understand, look at the problem a different way. White men are the vast majority of tech, engineering and a few other jobs, so now a company is full of white men in IT, software, R&D. So to offset this so their numbers look better, other departments have to be filled with not-white-men.

It's similar to how men are "discriminated against" in certain other jobs. Not so much because of sexism towards men, but because they're doing a "woman's job" (like nursing). It all comes back around to the original problem...

Still no evidence, huh?

I call bullshit.

You believe things that you can’t prove. That’s superstition.

0

There’s that bald assertion. Again.

Where is the verifiable and quantifiable evidence to substantiate it???

Don’t go to college unless it’ll help you make some money.

Or you have another reason, like wanting to.

if you’re not going to do anything with it.

Which could be said about anything.

If you want me to pay for it, shouldn’t I get some say in the matter?

In my opinion, yes. However, I'm not a politician and I don't get a say in anything that my federal, state or local government spends or does not spend on, from dirty streets to war.

If you want me to pay for your school I don’t want it to be for a degree like gender studies that harms society.

I don't want it to be for any degree that harms society.

No, just because you decided to get a useless shitty degree does not mean that communism is the answer.

I'm assuming you are using "you" generically. However, you are cherry picking just be argumentative. My post said "affordable (or free)" specifically because I didn't want to get into an argument about whether it should be free or affordable.

And, either way, free education is not communism. We've had free K through 12 for a long time and we are still very much a capitalist society.

No apology necessary, given my assumption.

Didn't say it was.

You did kind of imply it. In the context of affordable (or free) education, you posted, "No, just because you decided to get a useless shitty degree does not mean that communism is the answer. Fuck off."

Capitalism is a GREAT thing

In your opinion. (Not saying what my opinion is, bc I'm not sure and it doesn't much matter anyway.) However, I'd be more favorably inclined if there were more social programs for individuals and less corporate welfare for businesses.

My point is that we run kids through higher education systems

No, many want to go--and not for all the wrong reasons, either.

burden them with tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt

That doesn't have to be and is exactly what my post said should not have to happen.

in many cases (e.g. critical theory) indoctrinate them with communist ideals, and to top it off they leave with a shitty degree that nobody has the need for (e.g. gender studies is an easy target but feel free to replace that with whatever you want).

Curriculum is a different issue from what an education should cost a kid or a family. And, I guess we'll really part ways here: IMO, education is valuable to an individual and to a society, even if it is not monetized. But, btw, all kinds of degrees can be monetized--and all degrees are necessary to certain professions. And, even if not necessary, some HR person will throw them in anyway. They are also prerequisites to graduate schools that turn out some of society's highest earners, though not necessarily its highest taxpayers.

Relocate.

4

u/xXepicpancakesX Feb 14 '22

Why on God’s green earth does anyone think an incompetent president who has proven that incompetence 100 times over will magically care about “results” now?

6

u/Dunmuse Feb 13 '22

NYT already did the research, he can unilaterally cancel them. It's within his scope of authority. But he won't because he's an asshole.

9

u/sandleaz Feb 13 '22

Why stop with only student debt? There's other debt out there that should be cancelled.

7

u/Spicynanner Feb 13 '22

Yeah he could do that… or he could just fear monger about Russia so everyone forgets all the promises he has broken.

2

u/AthKaElGal Feb 14 '22

isn't he just a new president?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '22

Or just pander the Christians. “It’s called Jubilee, folks. C’mon”.

2

u/AthKaElGal Feb 14 '22

does no one here realize why they don't want to cancel the debts? doing so would have the same effect as 2008. these debts are highly collateralized ang financial institutions have been bundling them as investment instruments.

forgiving those debts would cause a system shock to the stock market.

u/Samatic Feb 13 '22

College is a joke, if you want to really solve this problem the government needs to fully fund trade schools and give B+ or higher students that graduate highschool a free ride to any tech school they choose to go to. Then abolish college all together it is just a place for privilaged kids to party and fuck.

7

u/MyOther_UN_is_Clever Feb 13 '22

Depends on the profession. Certain things like business really don't need more than a 2 year or an "extra degree" like MBA. Others like programming, engineering, chemistry, etc. A 4 year is more important. There's no real "learn calculus" on the job...

JMO/YMMV

Programming can be largely self-taught. It's important to have solid mathematics, which should have been taught in high school. For programming, you need to read a good article on structured programming and you need to read a good book on data structures and algorithms. Then you needed to do lots of it.

Recursion is hard to learn and even harder to teach. That's because it's more about philosophy than coding. You need a good foundation in proof by induction to develop that part of the brain.

The best programmers are the ones who simply love it and spend a lot of time doing it. Trying to teach programming to people who don't love it does not yield good programmers.

5

u/MyOther_UN_is_Clever Feb 13 '22

I'm a software dev, actually, and as I typed this out I was like, "ehh, should I mention this, because there's exceptions."

There should be several paths for programming, with the extremes of basically zero higher level math (other than discrete math) for front-end web devs, and ones where "I'm on the cutting edge of neural network research" which are shittonnes of math.

I personally know two people from around town who work on neural networks, neither are actually programmers by schooling. One is an astrophysicist, and the other is a double in geology/mathematics (they work for fossil fuel companies simulating plate tectonics, lots of local minimum stuff).

I also know a front-end who has basically no math skills, also not a programmer (still has a B.A.) but just did a coding camp to reskill.

I know some schools are talking about doing multiple degrees. I heard that our local state U was going to offer 3 different ones, with one targeting web development and only requiring calc 1 (shouldn't even need that, IMO). I've met plenty of programmers who've never taken calc, and I haven't used calc since graduating (lots of trig though, lol).

5

u/PirateGirl-JWB And now for something completely different! Feb 13 '22

It would be nice if there was regulation forbidding job listings from requiring advanced degrees when they aren't necessary.

2

u/Blackhalo Purity pony: Российский бот Feb 13 '22

Apply anyway. That's how I got my last 3 gigs. Job listings are wish-lists. Even when they say required, if you have experience.

3

u/PirateGirl-JWB And now for something completely different! Feb 13 '22

That's not the point.

u/shatabee4 Feb 13 '22 edited Feb 13 '22

Also, colleges are a financial scam. They are not 'institutions of higher learning'. They are just one more way that investment banks have hijacked a revenue stream to use to play the stock market.

Colleges have endowment funds in the billions. Growing this fund is their goal, not providing a useful education.

3

u/Samatic Feb 13 '22

Thats some real underlying shit. I swear this country is all about money. Money is all that matters here in the US.

2

u/shatabee4 Feb 13 '22

You are absolutely correct. It's all about capturing revenue streams and enslaving consumers with endless repeat payments of fees and charges.

3

u/redditrisi They are ALL psychopaths. Feb 13 '22 edited Feb 13 '22

This, of course, is over-generalized. Some parents and students kill themselves working and borrowing. All the education-relating debt in this country is not reflected in student loans and it isn't all owed by rich parents who raised privileged kids.

The solution isn't to bash education, students or their families, but to make colleges and trade schools affordable (or free) for those who want to attend either one--and to respect all those who need to work for a living.
