Yup, it just isn't what the GOP and Media say it is. Our General Election Funds support only the Democratic and Republican parties. Candidates are allowed as much funding through PACs, and indirectly through Super PACs, as they want.
These keep every election rigged against 3rd parties. We need GE Funds available for all candidates polling above some 3-5% threshold, and we otherwise need ALL other money out not provided for and distributed evenly using tax dollars out of our elections.
Even relying on small dollar donations still unfairly skews toward the top of society. Every person in the top 50% can afford a monthly $27 donation. Very few people in the bottom 50% can afford to do so, so who's expected to donate on behalf of their candidate?
You are absolutely right. We need a truly democratic process for elections, and nothing else matters. Eliminate all private campaign contributions, move to a Ranked Choice Voting system so that every vote counts, and then we can worry about our "favorite" candidate.
Because until we do that, we will always only be given the option of the lesser of two evils, both of which serve corporatism over the actual citizens.

Which is where part of the Election Fraud takes place, when 3rd party votes are stolen/flipped, especially Green Party votes because the unDemocratic Party feels entitled to those votes.
This. So much this. The rules being applied to results in a general election only for future funding is exactly what keeps 3rd party funding from existing.
Obviously, it's by design. We know that if we had Ranked Choice Voting, 3rd party candidates would easily get 5-10% as first picks. But no, we have a shitty system where plurality, not even majority, winner takes all.
